231 CDT Gauge Issue

Greetings all,

We have a CDT gauge issue where the needle is not showing any indication at all. The TIT gauge is operating normally. Our local mech states that typically it is the probe that is bad on these. That probe is about a 760 dollar item from Mooney. Is there a way to test that probe prior to ordering a new one? Resistance across an ohm meter ????

A Type K thermocouple generates 41 microvolts per degree C.

A Type J thermocouple will generate 56 microvolts per degree C.  Find out which you have.

  Go do a runup where your EGT is around 1200 degrees F (648 C), your TIT should be similar, and a Type J should develop 0.0326 V .

Any shot that probe could come from somewhere other than Mooney for less coin? (if you are forced to replace)

I had the same issue. Here is something else for you to test...a bit different from Byron's suggestion.  Next time your flying bang on it really hard with something.  Those little suckers get stuck for one reason or another every now and then

If the needle shows no indication, mightn't it be a continuity problem?
