Speed Merchant Posted December 16 Report Posted December 16 My 201 is getting a new interior. I didn't like the first take the shop did on my glareshield. I am looking for suggestions what to do to improve the looks. My glareshield was heat warped like most Mooneys of that vintage. The shop said they could warp it some synthetic leather but it might not do well in the heat. What have other Mooney done to correct the warp and improve the appearance? Thanks Curt Quote

PT20J Posted December 17 Report Posted December 17 I fixed mine by separating the two parts and cleaning everything up. You can heat it gently with a heat gun and press it between two pieces of plywood to remove warps. Cracks can be repaired using glass cloth and ABS cement and weak areas strengthened by gluing ABS sheet to the underside. I filled some imperfections on the top with Loctite Plastic Bonder and then sanded down the entire top until it was smooth. Any remaining small imperfections can be filled with Bondo Glazing & Spot Putty. When the entire top was smooth, I sprayed it with SEM Texture Coating to give it a texture and then finished it with SEM Color Coat Black Satin. I glued the two halves back with some RTV. 1 Quote
IvanP Posted December 17 Report Posted December 17 Hector at Aero Comfort fixed mine very nicely. Just curious if there could be a market for aftermarket glareshields for GA planes that would be made from material less prone to warping. This issue does not appear to be limited to Mooneys. Quote
PT20J Posted December 17 Report Posted December 17 Ashby makes fiberglass glare shields. Available from Aircraft Spruce. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/ashbyglareshields.php?clickkey=6153 Quote

Even though Hector did a good job on fixing the glareshield for my Bravo, I would not mind spending 1 AMU for a brand new one that would be less prone to heat damage. Quote
