I am quite confused. Ground tells me that they can hardly hear me. I take off and do a com check which comes back loud and clear. Yesterday when I came back from a flight, I listened to the archived audio from LiveATC and I was perfectly audible until I touched down and they gave me taxi instructions. (without changing frequency or even touching the radio) I sounded like in a sandstorm under a helicopter. Any ideas what that could be or how to go about finding it? I have an Avydine 440 Nav with radio and a secondary Bendix King Radio.

Is it changed or always been like that?  Do you know where the antenna is for that radio?  Antenna Connector and grounding issues are common but I haven’t heard of anything specific to being on the ground other than the wing/fuselage shading a lower antenna.

I just bought it April, so it may have always been that way. ATC mentioned it several time, but always on the ground. The antenna being shaded by the wing makes a ton of sense... not sure how to solve that though, since the wings are kinda crucial for the flying part. In all seriousness, I guess I have to figure out which antenna is for what and start there...

Thank you for the input.

Sounds like one of your com antenna’s are under the belly, which will cause this issue. Hopefully one of your radios has its com antenna on top. That’s the one to use for ground if so.

If you have two comms, switch to the other on the ground and see if it helps.   If so, and one of your comm antennas is on the belly, that may be the issue.

I have this issue.  Comm 1 (GNS430W) antenna is on the belly and commonly I have to switch to comm 2 (KX-155) whose antenna is on the roof in order to be heard when I'm on the ground.  Not always, it depends on the orientation of the plane, but it's common enough that I've started to use comm 2 when on the ground to avoid the potential hassle.  The trick is to remember to switch back to comm 1 once airborne!
