BillC Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 I bought a JPI FS-450 for my '79 201. (During the rebate of course!) Would anyone like to share how they installed the transducer? Did you attach it to the 'spider' at the top of the engine and did you use any additional support? As usual, a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for any help. Quote

MARZ Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 I'll take a picture of my mount when I get to the airport (hopefully this week) but in the mean time - we fabricated a mount that spanned the split in the case side to side on the front half of the engine (think of an upside down U channel - notched out for the fuel line) Two case bolts secure the mount - the original fuel line to the spider connects to a new hose and routes to the transducer - another hose from the transducer to the spider - both hoses are approx 12" Quote
BillC Posted February 13, 2012 Author Report Posted February 13, 2012 Thanks for the reply guys. And thank you Mike for the photo offer. I hope it's not putting you out. I look forward to seeing it. Bill P.S. To N601RX, I did not get a manual for the installation for the transducer. I'll give a call to JPI to see if they have one. Thanks. Bill Quote

mooney2201 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I INSTALLED TRANSDUCER ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY ENGINE, JUST UNDER CYLINDERS,THE EASYIEST WAY TO DO THIS IS ORDER THE RIGHT HOSE WITH THE PROPER FITTINGS,,,JOB IS SO EASY WHEN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT HOSE FITTINGS.ONLY THREE WIRES, SIMPLE JOB TRANSDUCER HAS A HEAT SLEEVE MAKE SURE YOU USE IT...DONT BLOW INTO FITTING,YOU WILL DAMAGE IT.....360.00 FOR A NEW ONE.. OR75 Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 the install is based on an STC and will require a form 337 and IA sign off. There are 2 tricky parts: the most difficult part will be to get the "right" 2 firesleeved hoses to replace the 1 hose that goes from the fuel pump to the fuel injector. Too long is not good and too short is not good. You don't want any kinks !!!. I found that a 90 degrees fitting works better that a straight fitting to route the hoses. The steel AN fittings need to be really tight so that there is no leak the second tricky part will be the push / pull the electric wires thru the firewall. The FS is very accurate and does not require recalibration. Good luck Quote

N601RX Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Quote: maropers There is a bulkhead fitting on the firewall - take the time to open up the top avionic cover, undo the two bolts that sandwich the rubber grommets; the wires are easy to route that way. My 450 wound up being a little off like the 00.23 Quote
OR75 Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 The transducer is supposed to be between the fuel pump and the injector. I don't understand how it can end upon top of the engine like that. I also believe it needs to have a firesleeve. Quote
Immelman Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Its worth getting the manual from JPI and heeding their recommendations. They are quite particular about no elbows or sharp bends close to the transducer to get an accurate result. Quote
MARZ Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Thanks guys - accuracy is not an issue - I'm within tenths on full tanks - I will be inquiring on the firesleeve issue though.... Quote
OR75 Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 I am not familiar with how the IO-360 is configured in an F model. But the FS-450 STC is clear that the transducer needs to be between the engine driven pump and the fuel injection pump. It is probably fine as it is, but as a buyer looking under the cowling, I would not like how it looks. I wonder what the 337 says. Quote
N601RX Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 It is also clear to use only steel fittings. Not blue anodized aluminum Quote
