I have g3x touch with software V9

I am trying to update the database. I have tried different SD cards with Garmin update software which all go well but it is like the g3x doesn't "see" the update on the card

The database update on the gtn750xi went fine.

Any idea?

PS: Would the fact that the g3x database is expired explain the fact that the grn750xi is not sending its data to the g3x? I have to select internal gps to be able to drive the gfc500 autopilot (in VFR mode only)

Has it never worked or did it stop working? It sounds like a hardware issue with the G3X SD card reader. With a card in the slot, there is an option on the first line of the configuration mode screen to copy the G3X config file to the card. If this option doesn't appear, then the G3X is not seeing the card. If it does appear you can copy the configuration file to the card and that will show that the G3X can also write to the card.

The expired database should not affect the G3X/GTN communication. It sounds like either a wiring or more likely a configuration issue.

It writes the flight logs on the card though.

Possible, but then the configuration changed by itself?  It worked perfectly the day before.

I don't see this option either.

I prepared the cards in a Mac with Garmin database updater. I am going to try on a PC today just to make sure it is not OS related.

That might be the problem with the card. It has to be formatted FAT32.

I would get the card working first and update the database just to eliminate that and then troubleshoot the GTN com.

I did that, but it does not work.

I do not see the option you mentioned in config mode although I can transfer to the card all the logs.

It is as if the update were not present in the card.

For the gtn not sending gps data to the G3X, the reason is because I am stupid. The CDI mode on the gtn was set to loc...

Noticed you used a MAC.  Can't help much but here's one data point.  I tried to update a GNS430 using the new Garmin MAC compatible software about a month ago.  My card became corrupted (so they say).  I spent hours on the phone with Garmin, finally in the shop at a very reputable avionics dealer (I could sense database update frustration all around the room).  The various Garmin techs I talked to over two days all speculated on root cause.  Possible causes ranged from USB 3.0 interfaces that were too fast (as compared to 2.0), to files that were being written on the card by the MAC OS, that was corrupting the card.  Garmin pointed the finger at Apple.  I pointed the finger at Garmin and noted that a computer was required for the update, that they had a clear computer interface dependency, and that they had endorsed the MAC compatible software.  Bottom line, I had little confidence in Garmin's determination of root cause.  Ended up buying another card.  Have not tried it again on the MAC (yet).  My confidence in software based avionics is declining based on the problems people are having with database updates. **IF** Garmin ever has a big roll over in software developers or looses software configuration management control, we're all hosed.  You've really gotta wonder how many trouble calls they receive a day regarding data based updates.
