cogboxer Posted April 5, 2022 Report Posted April 5, 2022 I'm trying to find the right fuel pump for my 1962 M20C. I thought it was LW-15472, which is what is listed on the Tempest website. But, that one is a fair bit taller than my original and I'm not positive it will fit in the bay between my footwells on the firewall. On the Quality Aircraft Accessories site they had an overhauled pump listed as part number 40295 that looks right. They thought they had one in stock, but are actually backordered. https://www.qaa.com/products/aircraft-fuel-pumps-1/lycoming-fuel-pumps/40295-overhauled-fuel-pump Anyone know: The right part number for the short pump that was in the early C models? Whether the LW-15472 is a suitable replacement/will fit? Seems like it should be something I could find, but I've searched Google and the forums here with no luck so far. Quote

Whether the LW-15472 is a suitable replacement/will fit? PN 40295 is an old number. See excerpt from the AS website. LW-15472 is the correct Lyc pn for the O-360-A1D fuel pump. I verified it in the Lyc parts catalog, PC-106. I had trouble getting the AN flared fittings orientation right without under/over torquing. You might need to install them before the pump is installed because of clearance issues with the prop governor. Be sure to use the proper thread lube. The straight-thread adapter fittings (2 each, Lyc pn 75505) that screw into the pump should also get new o-rings, pn MS29512-6. How old are your fuel hoses? The inlet hose can suck air with no evidence of an external leak. This might be a good time to swap them out. This isn’t necessarily a fun job, at least when the engine is installed. Pulling the battery box was essential, at least for me. If the pump arm isn’t installed correctly under the actuating rod in the engine, internal engine damage can occur. Good luck. Quote

Thanks, I was able to get a rebuilt 40295. I’d previously ordered an LW-15472 but it is about an inch taller — I’m assuming it would fit but that space is so tight for the accessories that I figured I’d be better off sticking with the short one. The engine is off (because of a cracked engine mount) so I’m going to replace the hoses now as well. 2 Quote
