V1VRV2 Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 Just an idea I had since I’m going to be overhauling my panel... anyone remove the plastic factory mooney switches and install toggle switches? Silk screened function on panel? Overkill? Maybe! Quote
MIm20c Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 IMO it would not be an upgrade aesthetically or functional. I would instead spend the time really laying out the panel well, demanding precision in cutout placement, making sure the extra details from the original panel are carried through. Things like the radius at the bottom of the panel, the bevel given to three sides of the trim/flap indicator, flush mounted instruments wherever possible, and buttons grouped together by function. Beyond centering the pfd to your liking also think about how the top of your pfd (or switches, TKS control, indicators, etc) lines up to things to the right on the radio stack and copilot panel. Minivation Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 (edited) If you ask me on the other hand, I personally like toggle switches better because I find them easier to actuate. They're also easier to source & replace compared to rocker switches, especially if the rockers were custom labelled. That said, the Mooneys do use breakered switches, in other words, the switches also act as a circuit breaker. The TE / Potter&Brumfield W31 series switches are a popular choice for breakered toggle switches in GA. Edited February 24, 2021 by Minivation 1 Quote
carusoam Posted February 25, 2021 Report Posted February 25, 2021 Or go full modern, with fancy lighted and labeled aviation switches, that have a nice modern shape to them as well... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
