I think it coud sense RPM with the crank trigger, and MAP woth the MAP sensor. The article goes into great detail, but it appears that the main benefit is in the 8-12K altitude range, where you can get the full 40 degrees of advance.  I think their Mooney showed the most benefit at 35 degrees.

So maybe its not much more efficient than a magneto setup, but I like it for the ability to have some redundancy in the ignition system.

Unfortunately its not approved for the dual mag setup yet.  here is an email I recieved yesterday.

Hello:
I have a Bendix D4LN2021 (Bendix D-2000) dual mag on a 1977 Mooney M20J. Is the electroair approved for my aircraft?

Byron-
Thanks for your email.  We do not have an approved kit to replace the dual magnetos yet.  We are currently working on a program that will address this very issue. We'll keep you posted on our progress.

Thanks...
Mike

Hmmm, their own FAQ mentions how it can be used with the dual mag (I quoted in my first post).  There was no mention that this might be for experimental use only, but perhaps that is the case?

Ideally they'll expand the STC to replace the D-2000/3000 with some common standalone single mag + their system so that we don't have to haul around dead weight with the dual mag but only using one side.

I have just installed the EIS 41000 on my m20c.  It was a 10 hour job with the help of my IA; most of the time spent on wiring.  The controller is in the cabin and the coil/manifold pressure sensor are forward.  I replaced my shower of sparks mag on the right and it starts fine even with a partial battery.  It idles much more smoothly but I am getting an occaisonal backfire at low power settings.  I have also installed powerflow exhaust, majored the engine and installed a cowl enclosure so performance changes will be difficult to guage.  The only concerning quirk thus far is the 1/2 second pause when the power switch is cycled (an eternity in the air).  This is due apparently to the time it takes to power up.  I moved th plug wires so the bottom plugs are electronic and the mag is on the less likely to fowl top plugs.  There is now no rpm drop with the mag shut off at runup and about 150 with the electronic.  So far the clouds have not allowed me to try it at altitude.
