Ario Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 I think every Pilot can be in an unforeseen situation that needs to process multiple sets of data and make decisions. Considering the workload of the brain during flight, this sometimes becomes quite challenging. Especially the stress of a situation like bad weather can reduce the capability of the brain in considering all options. I think most pilots who have had accidents knew how to act to have a better outcome because of all the trainings but too much workload of the brain prevented them from acting properly. So it becomes the question of how to increase the cognitive and executive capacity of the brain. Found this article interesting on how learning musical instruments improves brain functionality. The most interesting part of the article is how learning a musical instrument helps with processing multiple sets of data and improves executive functions of the prefrontal cortex that are needed for critical decision making. https://www.inc.com/john-rampton/the-benefits-of-playing-music-help-your-brain-more.html 1
carusoam Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 I bet flying a plane can make you a better musician... We have a few musicians on MS... of a few varieties... from Doc John, Mitch, and Banjo... flute, trumpet, and some other instrument... I can’t remember... There are so many aspects to the brain... exercising them all as often as possible is a great idea... If trying to find out what is not working properly, Lumosity, is a great tool box... Lumosity gets a mention in the article above... PP thoughts only, not a cognitive therapist... Best regards, -a- 2
