Hi,

Does anyone know if the the Lynx 9000 can take a position source via data link from a navigator instead of using the internal GPS?

I am looking to get one installed, but trying to avoid putting another GPS antenna on the roof.

I seem to recall something on another forum ( that I now cannot find ) about using a splitter on a single GPS antenna to support the Lynx and a navigator. Is this a real thing that is approved?

Inviting @Marauder for any lynx, sharing a GPS antenna...

GPS info received by the antenna is so low power and susceptible to noise... it probably may not be a popular idea...

Some antennae May have a way of delivering an amplified signal, so its a great question.

Best regards,

Iain my Lynx 9000 shares the same antenna with the Garmin 650. Splitter is behind the panel. Works fine this way.

Thanks, @Marauder. Is this in the manual or STC or paperwork as an approved method?  I want to make sure I can provide direction to my installer that he won't argue or have issue with.

Section 2.3.5.1 talks about the GPS antenna requirements. I spoke to my shop during the installation was told that the GPS could be shared as long as it met the resistance and other factors spelled out in the associated TSO requirements.

My installer has done a number of Lynx installations so I am sure he is positive it could be done.

Interesting...and good to know it can work, but did the installer talk about what happens with the onboard GPS card that comes standard with the unit?  Can it be disabled or legally removed?  If it can, is the only motivation or driver behind disabling or removing it to save putting another antenna on one’s airplane?  Just trying to understand the reasoning.

Edit:  Removed my earlier post where I incorrectly indicated this could not be done to avoid confusion for others seeking a suitable solution.

I don’t think the onboard GPS can be disabled. It appears to be an integrated function. What would be interesting to know if it can be wired so the navigator’s GPS can be wired as a backup.

My Lynx also shares an antenna with one of my WAAS navigators.  When first installed it had its own antenna, with the second navigator we shared an antenna.
