Mcstealth Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 What sayeth about this plane. http://www.aerotrader.com/find/listing/1976-MOONEY-M-20F-93196257 As some of you know I have been posting on the AOPA board different Mooney's for opinions and advice. Thanks in advance. McStealth Quote
GeorgePerry Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 According to the ad "A Cruise of 150 Knots at 9.5 Gallons per hour!!" This must be a super F - not subject to the laws of physics like the every other Mooney that’s ever been built. No way will this thing do 150 kts on 9.5 gal/hr. F cowl and F windshield...Maybe with 10 knot tail wind in a descent....and then only maybe. Quote
TurboExec Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Way over priced....I'm asking a few grand less and mine is comparable except for the turbo. As for the speed, I'd give him 145kts on 9.5gph...150 is stretching. 3-blade props have been know to cause vibration issues in F models. It says the interior is only a 6+....Like I said I think it is over priced by at least $10K Quote
GeorgePerry Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I agree with all your points. My F does 140-145 kts all day long...@ about 9.5-10.5 depending on altitude, prop and MP settings. I don't have alot of gap seals or a 201 windshield or cowl. The previous owner of my F put a 3 blader on, and acutally removed it some months later because of the strange harmonic/vibration that the airplane had. He's the 3rd or 4th F owner to go back to a 2 bladed prop that I know of. I'f I were looking at this plane, I'd definitely want a ride in a 2 bladed F to compare with prior to test flight. The test flight should be really comprehensive to see if the vibration occurs...otherwise swapping props back to a 2 blade is going to be expensive ($8Kish with trade in, new prop, and labor) The G430, Stec and JPI are nice, but a Narco Xponder and boat anchor collins radio aren't worth thier total wt in dollars...if anything it detracts from the value. A " 6" for the interior might be a bit generous. I just had mine interior professionally re-done @ a cost of $7500. This one's going to need it soon. Based on market conditions and "IF" the prop vibration isn't an issue on this particular bird I'd say $69-70K is about right... If the thing vibrates, $65k tops. Quote
Greg_D Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 George, I'd like to see some photos of your plane if you don't mind sharing them. There's a guy selling an F model on Ebay right now. He claims it's faster than a J model. I think he arrived at that claim by adding up all of supposed speed gains from the mods that have been installed on the plane. And he wants $65K for it with "Buy it Now". I doubt he'll get anywhere close to that since it has very basic avionics and a Flybuddy GPS. Edit: I just got an email from the seller. He claims this M20F trues out at 170 knots at 65% power. Quote
GeorgePerry Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 It seemes when folks are "selling", thier planes capible to leaping over tall buildings etc, etc.....If they were really that great they wouldn't let them go:-) Quote
