Im having issues with my dash lighting on my 77'M20J--Fuse keeps blowing--avionics shop has tried most everything to fix it to no avail. I have found this to be common among older Mooneys. I am ready to try something new like Ring Lighting.Im ready to retrofit and Ring Lighting sure sounds good on paper but Id really like to know what it really costs, how many instruments you need to backlight (if not all of them), how easy they are to install, what they really cost, do the NuLites have any worthwhile competition and why? Yes many questions, but I trust the Mooney owners answers!!

Thank you and Happy Tday to everyone!

Wow, sounds like some chaffed wiring perhaps.  Regardless, I have installed the NuLights and they work just great.  Which instruments you light is your choice.   Cost is not a huge factor as you can see from such places as Aircraft Spruce.  I kept the dimmer switch and overhead lights ['65 E model] to illumiate the instrument cluster gages, but used a new LED dimmer for the NuLight rings.

I also have NuLights and love them. A thousand times better then stock! They were installed by previous owner so I so not have a price, but understand it is not much.

NuLites are about $40 each, one for each instrument that you want to light up.  I did my 6-pack of flight instruments; my two CDIs were internally lighted.  Depending on how close your instruments are to each other, you may need to modify the NuLites a bit to make them fit--I used a belt sander to grind down the edges a bit, but a table saw would probably have been better (mine was in storage).  If you do have a little room between your instruments, installation is a simple matter of removing the instrument screws, putting the NuLite between the instrument and the panel, replacing the screws, and connecting the wires to your panel light wiring.
