Sabremech Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 I have the SWTA 201 style windshield in my Mooney and it needs to be replaced. Is their windshield the only one that can be installed or can a 201 windshield from LP Aeroplastics be used?
Ron McBride Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 How old is it? Are you parked outside? Ron
knute Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Having recently installed one at SWTA (last summer) my recollection is that the windshield _is_ the 201 windshield. The bottom "strap" on mine is the factory 201 piece in aluminum to avoid the "buckling" issues with the fiberglass piece (as it ages) that was originally part of the STC. If you have the fiberglass piece, this would be the perfect time to upgrade that too. If in doubt, call Russell at SWTA- they're great to work with, and he can quickly answer your question. -Knute
Sabremech Posted June 17, 2010 Author Report Posted June 17, 2010 Mine was installed in Nov 98 and has been indoors mostly. There are 2 cracks at the top of the windshield and I am going to replace it before I paint the airplane. It does have the fiberglass strip at the bottom and it would be a good time to upgrade that. I checked the price for the windshield on SWTA's website and $440 seems a little steep to me. Any thoughts? Thanks

Sabremech Posted June 20, 2010 Author Report Posted June 20, 2010 Working as an A&P for a living, I see lot's of prices and this just seemed high to me. I'm well aware of the costs as I'm in the airplane parts manufacturing business too. I'll probabaly bite the bullet and pay the price, but it doesn't mean I'll be happy about it. As far as comparing it to car windshields, well I won't !
