carqwik Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 Does anyone know an avionics shop that is skilled at diagnosing and correcting Shadin issues in the Southwest region of the USA? Here's the background: My 1998 Bravo was subject to the crankshaft AD. That required the complete removal of the engine which was sent to Lycoming. Took five months to accomplish and I got the plane back in the air in late Feb 2009. Top Gun (Stockton) did an excellent job and there were no squawks except one - the Shadin was now reading about 10% too high. The Shadin was never touched during the engine R/R, and I flew for a year and it was consistently reading too high. Calls to Shadin suggested that it could be an "air leak" in the fuel line and the simple test was to turn on the fuel boost pump in flight to see if it altered the fuel flow readings. It made maybe 0.2 gph difference - and Shadin says it's not an air leak. So on my last annual, we adjusted the K factor and now it reads even higher....there is a chance that the K factor was reset incorrectly. However, Shadin told me that the K factor generally doesn't have to be reset ever. Worse, I know that the fuel flows in the engine haven't changed at all. So I'm looking for a shop that really knows how to troubleshoot Shadin issues. Quote

Piloto Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 How do you know it is reading 10% higher? It may not be a Shadin problem but a fuel control unit problem. José Quote
