  1. Took off for a little night flying with an instructor since it had been a few weeks without flying. It was in the 20's and hardly any humidity. It clinbed like a jet. Lot's of fun!
  2. Well there you have it. Thanks for the info.
  3. I posted a pic of me taking off and the step is still down. When does it normally retract? Is it at a certain air speed?
  4. I was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure when it comes up normally. You can see my gear doors are not quite closed yet either. This was taken from the end of the runway.
  5. I guess I'll chime in with a War Eagle!
  6. My buddies wife snapped these fron the guard unit as I was taking off out of KBHM yesterday. It was not planned, just right place at the right time. I'm going to get her to take some intentional shots with her zoom lense soon.
  7. I passed a T-38 on the taxiway one day. There was a pair flying back to MS out of my home base KBHM. I was in line behind them to take off and enjoyed watching the first one take off. About 30 sec later they called in that they had no operational fuel gauge. The second in line decided not to take off and the first returned to the pattern. I heard over the radio, mooney, please pass the T-38 and One up and wait runway 6. I retorted this may be my only chance to pass a T-38 . I waved as I passed them and thanked them for their service.
  8. How much oil do you burn? The trainers we would add a quart after a loop around the pattern it seemed. I've put almost 40h on my 201 and added 2qts. It still looks the color it did when I out it in.
  9. This has been fun. It's awesome to know that in about 10h, I can be anywhere in the country (with stops of course.). I'm bored to tears after about 2-3h. I could almost take a nap with my autopilot on though.
  10. Where do you guys typically cruise in the 201's?
  11. The guy who did my complex transition training made me verbalize everything out loud. Now I say it out loud still as I go through my pre-landing flow.
  12. So say you are 25deg LOP and burning 10gph. You constantly bump up mixture as you descend to keep it at 10gph?
  13. I've been trying to read everything I can about LOP vs. ROP. When you are running LOP, how do you handle your descent? At what point do you run your mixture back up?
  14. Holy crap that's a nice panel!
  15. Owning a Mooney can be expensive.
  16. That's close to home. Wish I could make it, but I'm heading down to New Orleans to catch some redfish.
  17. Absolutely! He's an Air Force pilot, so he certainly understood my desire to fly.
  18. 1:45 is the break even point for my mooney vs driving in a car. My buddy dropped me off at an airport about an 1h 45m car ride after we ran a triathlon this morning. He drove home with the bikes and I took the airplane. After pre-flight, taxi at home field, and the 25mi. car ride home from the airport, we pulled into the neighborhood behind each other.
  19. To eat more beingnets?
  20. Bought my Mooney this summer and insurance wanted me to do 25h with a CFII, 10h under the hood. I finished it up this morning and got my complex sign off. Pretty awesome that I was having coffee and beignets in New Orleans this morning, and now seeing patients in my office 5h car ride away at my office.
  21. I passed a T-38 last week. On the taxiway . It was a pair, the first had taken off and had a gauge go out and was returning , so the other requested permission to taxi back. They asked me to taxi past him so he could turn around. I said it may be the only time I ever get to overtake a fighter.
  22. I have about every mod you can think of that came with my '78 J. I have no idea how much they increase the speed because they were there when I got it, but I can tell you that at about 8000' the Ram air on the Lopresti cowling gives me about a 5kt boost. 5kt is not worth what those things cost if you ask me, but since I have it, I like it. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N201AT/history/20130827/1501Z/KMEM/KBHM
  23. After getting the under the breath complaint from a FedEx driver in Memphis about having to follow a Mooney in, it sure felt good to be told to slow down by the KBHM controllers coming back home.
  24. I'm VERY new to my m20J and still have a lot to learn. My transition CFII has a fair amount of mooney time and is a big ROP guy. I tried to play with it last week and felt like I could not get it LOP. It seemed to start getting rough at peak before is would ever go back down. I can get it down to about 11.5 (older flow guage so accuracy may be questionable) and then it starts getting rough. I'm screaming across the ground at 11.5, but still curious why i can't get it LOP.
  25. Dang I'm jealous of yalls hangers. I pay $325/mo and my hanger looks like it survived ww2 by a thread.
