  1. ..and various creatures as well, like turining into the Russians?
  2. May I ask how you reach the pedals in the Mooney with your lacrosse legs?
  3. They are as much Russians as you or I are Marsians.
  4. yes, it says " it may be a good idea to put the gear down before landing:
  5. gentlemen, I saw four more so called "Russian posts" today, and, having analyzed them, I can state with 99.9% confidence that Russians have nothing to do with this. First of all, these are "horoscope" messages with the link that will download a Trojan to your PC or take you to some dubious site at best. Secondly, the text only appears Russian: in reality, it is an auto translation from some English or other language page made with very poor quality software translator: this translator only translates words, but not phrases. I saw these when the online translators were in their infancy, somewhere in mid 90's. As a result of such translation, words are translated but they are not interconnected logically, so the whole text is a complete gibberish. Being a member of several Russian forums, I can tell that Russian bots use logical and readable text in Russian, with viral link inserted in it. So, why would Russian hackers bother with picking some English horoscope text, autotranslating it to Russian and publishing here? It would have been much easier for them to copy paste text from any Russian horoscope page, or any page in Russian, there are thousands of them. The reason is simple: the guy who publishes this wants you to believe that he is Russian because very few people here have the ability to read the language, but most of us here can recognize Cyrillic alphabet. I am not sure if adding captcha or another form of authentication would help; chances are, this jerk indeed obtained the membership here and publishes his crap manually. Since we are all pilots here, and therefore, safety is what we live by, I am sure that none of us here will be careless enough to click on the link in these messages. And if you do, prepare for the PC overhaul....

  7. FAA would frown at your love for vodka. As to the Russian women, one has to prove to the world that he is not a wimp to have one
  8. Sorry, my friend, but these automated translations don't work well. That first phrase in Russian that you probably translated from English with some Google translator is sort of nonsense (second part is all right) If you ever want a translation from/to Russian, let me know. I might be the only person of Russian origin here who owns Mooney although I am not 100% sure Below is the correct text in Russian: Если вы не можете победить их, то присоединитесь к ним ! Вы, американцы,куча слабаков.
  9. Well, I had such situation twice. Last time it was a bad plug, but the first time, the issue was caused by the "flooded" mag. Shop told me that one mag is plain bad, and has to be replaced. When we changed both mags, backfiring stopped.
  10. John, thank you for the information. One thing makes me uncomfortable though: the rivets. Removing them is easy, but putting them back may be a problem for me. Are they special type, special alloy, etc? do I just get them in a general hardware store or I need to find some "aviation type"?
  11. I noticed that the baggage door does not completely close any longer, and is protruding somewhat. Upon inspection, we found that the right side of the door hinge is torn, the apparent metal fatigue. So far, the crack is about 2 inch long which is likely to expand with every cycle of the door opening/closing. Soon, the door will probably decide to detach itself from the plane during the flight and do its own gliding to the ground. I am not too good at DIY projects; it seems like the door hinge is a part of the door itself, am I correct? If so, that means either baggage door replacement (a very bad idea) or repairing. The only way that seems feasible to me is to find someone who can do some micro-welding job in Atlanta area. Any other suggestions? I appreciate input of more experienced Mooney owners !
  12. Well, I wouldn't say I fought a tough battle having my wife approve the purchase of 20C in 2012... However, despite her claim that I am a head of the family, I always suspected that my decision making share in the household peaks at 49% in reality. It is not that she will disapprove if I suggest replacing our Mooney with something in 80-100K range, it is her usual words "do what you want to do, it is your decision" that tells me clearly that I better not
  13. Bob, I got my Mooney 2.5 years ago and at that point it was a decent machine except totally soiled and worn out carpet, plus oil leakage on the passenger site. Carpet has been replaced, leakage fixed, airspeed and suction indicators replaced and comm system received a face lift with addition of new Garmin radio. Plus, new tires, new mags and other "small things" So, in my first 2 years of ownership my wallet bled some 10K and I thought this would be enough. The actual troubles started after 2 years of the ownership, when we noticed spontaneous battery discharges on the ramp, then this cluster, then... oh, well, I don't want to whine but it seems like my Mooney has one more, invisible part installed that is called a "money burner" and the door of this burner just got wide open - much wider than before and certainly wider than I expected.
  14. I am at LZU, Lawrenceville. Now, I have even more issues. On the top of the malfunctioning cluster, I have a stuck passenger seat that simply doesn't move anymore My wife complains that Johnson bar is now too tight to operate (actually, yes she is right). I guess I need to sell my house to invest another 50K in this dying machine
  15. Well, an excellent suggestion, but if I decide to replace all these 52+ years old instruments, I might just as well sell my plane and get a J or K model from 80s. In the end, price tag will be the same
  16. I am having an issue with instrument cluster in my 1962 M20C. Am meter was showing backwards and some company in Kansas agreed to repair it. They indeed fixed my am meter, but then the oil temp indicator started going into the red zone in just 5 min of the flight time . Ok, we sent it back to KS and they repaired it second time. Oil temp is in green, but guess what? - cyl temp is now in red! I am losing my patience and confidence that my plane is safe and I no longer trust that company. On the top of it, I have something in my Mooney that periodically turns the circuit on by itself, so from time to time I cannot even start my plane until I recharge the battery. I need to find a good mechanic in Metro -Atlanta area or neighboring states who has real expertise in instruments/circuits of Mooney and bring my plane back in working order. Any suggestion is appreciated. thank you Yuri
  17. I just transitioned from 172 to no-mods Mooney 20C (1962) and satisfied insurance req's for 25 hrs dual with my CFI. I am now looking for the expert vintage Mooney instructor to fine tune my Mooney flying and teach me Mooney specific tricks. I think I need extra 5+ hours or more. I live very close to PDK and airplane is stationed at LZU. Please advise, I thank you all in advance.
  18. a nose wheel for my M20C 1962, by any chance? This thing loses pressure daily and I have to pump it up constantly
  19. Okay, it is getting clearer as more of you try tohelp me out. What I know now is that the kit is available in at least three places, but the price tag is around $2500 plus installation charge. I do need rubber pedals, a couple of master xylinders and lines. One forum member already offered his spare master cylinders so if I find the brakes, then I am supe my A/P guy ca do the rest.
  20. Evanthe Papastathis? I will try, thank you.
  21. The insurance quote is qbout $1500 for both of us. Painful but not lethal. However, it looks more and more like impossible mission and I may eed to get a quote just for myself and let my wife continue on 172 until our CFI's are confident enough to let her fly Mooney with single side brakes
  22. Well, the insurance is about $1550 for both me and my wife and the qoute is on my desk. It is painful, but not lethal... however, I might have run into the dead end road with these dual brakes so in the end my wife may need to continue flying Cessna until CFI's are happy to let her control Mooney.
  23. Yes, I am in LZU. Just got my 20C delivered to me, tied it down at flight school. Need to get 25 hrs duo with CFI before I can fly solo, per insurance clause since all my experience is with Cessna's. Not a big issue, but our CFI's don't want to instruct my wife because of that brake situation. Funny thing, we bought Mooney only because my wife started taking lessons and we wanted a fast plane since we are planning long haul trips and now this.. I might have made a mistake buying this beautiful bird too soon, but couldn't resist the temptation
  24. 152 is not, I don't want my wife to sit on CFI's lap. ) I had about 12 hrs on 152 and ran away to 172, this little thing qualifies for an airplane only when there is only one person in the cockpit, otherwise it looks more like a romantic encounter
