  1. Lou at http://www.flyingleafaviation.com/ installed the PCU 5000 and I can honestly say it is tremendously better than my previous governor. I have much better control over prop speed and it seems to respond to every twist of the prop control. I would highly recommend the PCU 5000 and Lou's work!
  2. It works nicely on a C model - did some initial testing today and will try to fly it tomorrow.
  3. FYI - On mine the electric pump is loud until the pressure is built up and then quiets down - that is usually when I look at the gauge to see what pressure it has built to. YMMV
  4. The PCU 5000 looks like a good idea - a couple of locals expressed that the governors as old as mine were known to start leaking over time.
  5. My Governor started leaking oil around the spring/cable attachment - I kept finding a drop of oil on the nose wheel tire. We are planning to pull it and inspect it for age related issues - any suggestions about rebuild/replace?
  6. +1 - works very well and cleans the scratches as well.
  7. Buy it, fly it and sell it to buy a newer one when you want to upgrade the panel...
  8. One Tank Flights is a good resource http://www.onetankflights.com/default.aspx
  9. Having purchased this airplane's twin last May I can stress that you should get a good pre-buy. I knew what I was getting into and after a $5k annual that was finished two weeks ago I am truly satisfied that I bought a good airplane to build time in. It has an antique panel complete with an RNAV that is barely readable. I plan to do all types of VFR flying for a year or two and use it as an IFR trainer. Eventually I'll upgrade the panel - but by then we'll all be using iPads and Nooks to navigate anyway! I say - Buy it and fly it!
  10. I had that same discussion today at the FBO for my BFR. My instructor suggested the same thing, fly high and run one tank out purposely then refill it to find out how much is usable.
  11. I usually pick a nice day that is sunny pull my plane over to the hose with my cleaning bucket (soap, sponges and some degreaser) and wash it. Once it is done I take it around the pattern a few times to dry it off.
  12. It is not unreasonable. I was selling my last plane (in 2011) I flew it all over NC/SC to show it to prospective buyers and their mechanics. I enjoyed the flying and they always paid for my expenses.
  13. Get a good Pre-BUY - I can't stress that enough! I used the local mechanic where the aircraft was located for a pre-buy, even flew there and helped with unscrewing the panels, etc. but he missed a few key items that could've been expensive major showstoppers. That plane is definitely nicer than what I started with - I was lucky that my A&P (Lou Pugliese @ Flying Leaf Aviation - KHBI) let me help plus learn all about my airplane as he worked on it. It took up 6 months of space in his shop but I can officially say it has paid off handsomely and I am proud of the result. He was very thorough and patient with me as an A&P apprentice-in-training.
  14. I am anxious to find out what you decide - I have the same ugly plastic panel - and mine is crumbling...
  15. Just replaced a Gill in my plane with a Concorde - the Gill was installed in 2009 and wouldn't hold a charge. Don't know anything about the Concorde since I have only used it for a month. Has anyone tried a solar panel to keep their battery charged?
  16. Nice picture, flown by there a few times!
  17. I sat in the pilot seat and lowered the flaps while someone put tape on the flap where I could see it. I then measured the spacing and made the vinyl to fit. I can make more if anyone wants them.

Now I can see what position the flaps are in by looking out the window.

Much less maintenance - easier to remove and reinstall!

Needed to be replaced per an AD

Pulled the engine to comply with some AD's

    Original Equipment brake lines!
  23. We did the same thing - pushed the fluid up from the calipers, worked very nicely. Lou @ Flying Leaf in Asheboro already had the pump sprayer setup to do just that.
  24. Howdy all, It has come time to replace my ELT - any suggestions?
