  2. Our plane was out at F46 tied down, thankfully the FBO was nice enough to get our plane in the hangar. The wx went from fine, to hell in no time at all. The wx thankfully passed to each side of us for the most part. Here's a neat photo of my college campus during the storm. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/467507_10150650829037810_542202809_9552575_424230116_o.jpg
  3. If someone can recommend an avionics shop near Dallas, or if you can't recommend one in Dallas I am willing to fly anywhere in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arkansas, or pretty much any state near Texas. I'd prefer to get it done locally so I don't have to get an airline ticket to get back and to pick it up.
  4. Hello, I've been shopping around for an install cost on a FS-450 and an EDM 700. I originally was looking for the EDM 700 but I was quoted $5,755.89 installed and so I looked at a FS-450 and was quoted $2840 for the install of a FS-450 if I provided the instrument. Are these numbers high or is this really what is to be expected when installing EDM 700s or FS-450s? I'm new to aircraft ownership (technically partnership) and may not of realized how expensive upgrades are. -Jacob
  5. I went from a 172 -> Cardinal RG -> M20C which is a tad bit slower than a J and shorter but the transition was not that bad. Compared to a 172 and a 177RG they aren't nearly bad on floating whereas with mooneys you have to nail the speeds. Honestly, that's what I found the hardest. You'll *love* a mooney!
  6. Quote: Lionudakis I have been pondering that to for a 62C, but my plane partner is dead set on a 930, but we dont even have a panel mounted gps yet. A 930 or 900 cleans up the panel by eliminating the factory stuff, it might save as much weight as vacuuming the carpet would, it looks cool. For practicallity, a 730 minimum, or 830 is perfect for carb'd or injected IMO. Fuel flow and temps without a dought, by the time you add a few options to the 730, you might as well get an 830. An 830 would let you bring all engine indications to the pilots side of the radios if the panel is layed out well....Opinions vary
  7. Hello, I have been looking at the EDM 830s and 930s for a while now, I am wondering if it's worthwhile to invest that kind of money, especially in a 930, in a plane as old as 1975 and the fact it's carbureted? Regards,
  8. I have about 25 hours in a 177RG. The gear isn't the most reliable, as you all know. I believe it's hard to find a very well maintained 177RG, at least I never came across one. They fly very nicely, it's a bit odd that you climb out at an almost level pitch which can take some used to. I never came across a leaky door, entry is nice and easy. Personally, I really like the 177RG even with the gear issue. It's simple to fly, easy to recover, and at least in the one I flew was able to do 148ktas on 8gph LOP. It was a hard decision between going with a M20C or a 177RG but I got lucky finding my now partner, rob(aa777).

  11. I bought into a M20C partnership when I was 18, I'd always been on the fence between ownership, leases, and clubs but after the latter two ended up being not what I wanted I got into the M20C.

  16. Hello, I am in the final process of buying into a partnership for a '75 Mooney M20C here in Dallas. Can anyone recommend a CFII in Dallas with Mooney experience? I would like to do my transition training from a Cardinal RG to the Mooney then go right at getting my instrument rating that I currently am about 10 hours into. The airplane is at ADS. Regards, Jacob Wall
  17. I am also curious on this as well.
  18. Thanks for the quick shpping!
  19. Doh! You're right. Thanks for the clarification. Quote: NotarPilot I think we're referring to the LEDs for the nav, position, anti-collision and strobe lights. I think you may be referring to just the landing lights. I think the LED lights for everything else make your aircraft much easier to see at night, hence safer.
  20. What would be the point of buying Whelen lights if they run, at least on Aircraft Spruce, just as much as HIDs? Is it simply because they're less man hours to install?
  21. *raises hand*That's still incredible how they all worked together and lifted it up like it was no big deal. Quote: timinfla2 Holy smokes - was anybody else amazed at the group of those folks lifting that plane up like it was nothing? Logicly speaking, i get that enough people lifting the plane only lift a fraction of the weight, but just the same, it was a pretty incredible spectacle. Sucks for the pilot though... Too bad, but it seemed to be a mishap from which you could walk away.
  22. Is the EDM 930 still up for grabs? PM me please.
  23. I'll take it, PM me your paypal email.
