  1. 9235 in small planes, or a little bit of everything?
  2. Gotcha. I see that there are special rigging tools. I am going to see if my mechanic has them, and I guess let him deal with it.
  3. Beautifully
  4. Around 84 hrs.
  5. I agree. I noticed the speed seemed to bleed off a little faster, but now I know, normal winds, I can do 80 mph, and with headwind or tailwind try 75. It's all a learning curve, and it takes a while to master the airplane.
  6. Ok, so the rod that bolts on to the alerion... Take out the bolt, and turn it? As far off as this is, it would make a huge difference, just to line up by sight, but I would have my instructor with me who is a A&P.... I have a great, clean well maintained plane, but it's a never ending squak list... That's half the fun, keeping these old birds maintained. I spent last summer polishing and waxing her. My wife says I am married to my plane.
  7. Let me rephrase that. The manual is specific on the tolerances, but not exactly where the adjustment points are.
  8. Yeah, I didn't see an adjust point on the pushrod going into the alerion, and the manual is not specific, so I am going to have my mechanic look at it. It now makes perfect sense of why it's doing what it's doing. Even though the wing leveler corrects it, I want everything to be right.
  9. Lets not make this a bashing thread. Sat went up and tried 75 mph short final, compared to 80 before, and it worked magic. Landed to get fuel with 10 knot headwind, and she set down perfectly. Then coming back to a towered airport they had me come in on the preferred runway, with a 5 knot tail wind, and she set down perfect. So 75 is the magic number. Did some instrument time with inop instrument training, and unusual attitudes, and stayed within tolerances. Flight instructor is having me stay within 50ft during steep, standard turns, and 100 strait and level. I should be good to go for checkride soon, and I have met all the requirements except for 30 mins of instrument. Then after ppl, I am going to work instrument and commercial under the same syllabus. This has so far been a great adventure.
  10. Went out to the plane, and the left alerion was pointing down a little, and the right was level with the wing. With the left alerion down it is causing lift on the left side, which is causing the plane to bank right. Is there any easy way to adjust the alerion? The maintenance manual is not specific. Thanks
  11. I have a C if that will work....
  12. That that post will be missed. The way everyone thinks I interpreted it, is to bank 60 degrees when turning final, trim to a nose high attitude, and lower speed to 50 MPH on short final. That thread will be missed.
  13. Interesting. It's got to be something in airleons since the wing leveler fixes it.
  14. I guess the best way to describe it is "drop a wing" in the above post from Bennett.
  15. So if they were willing to do it for free with other services, then it shouldn't be that much I guess..... I am in the Memphis area
  16. How much does rigging normally cost, and can any A&P do it? I disabled wing leveler with rubber band on yoke to see how she flys, and she wants to pull right and downward. With wing leveler, she flys strait and cordinated.
  17. Do the DC battery powered vacuume could be worse? Isnt everything in the plane DC?
  18. So long hose, or would I have any issues with one of those handheld dustbusters?
  19. I heard that you can magnatize the airplane if you vacuum it... Any truth to this?
  20. We did a complete 180 and lost only 300 feet, so it is possible.
  21. Think about it this way. The FAA says the you have a 30% chance if surviving with a shoulder belt, and that is pretty much to prevent your head from getting smashed up. I wonder what the statistics would show if you put a helmet on during a forced landing....something to think about.
  22. That's what I was talking about. Keeping one handy, then if I have to make forced landing, put it on. It certainly wouldn't hurt. As far as the shape my plane is in, it has less than 100 hrs engine and prop, always hangared, and never put up dirty, but the plane was built by a human, and there is a possibility something could go wrong, and I feel that if something did go wrong, then there is nothing wrong with reaching in the back seat, and throwing on a helmet. I don't live in the bubble. I skydive, ride dirtbikes, and fly airplanes. I am not a pussy, but other than the plane breaking up, or nosediving, I am starting to see the benefit of a helmet from the accidents I have been watching. At least in an airplane, you know ahead of time in many instances, and you can have the oportunity to reach in the back sear and throw on a helmet.
  23. Really? I am being serious. I have wrecked several times in a dirtbike, and I know know for a fact, if I didn't have a helmet on, I would have died. Think about it, landing right above stall speed, having shoulder harness on, having full faced helmet on. Your chances of survival could be much greater. I am still a student pilot, and I don't know everything, but I do know this... I have been seeing a lot if planes going down lately, and a lot of fatalities could have been prevented with a helmet on.
