  1. I recently replaced the lap belts with AM Safe lap and shoulder belts and I'm offering up my old ones for sale. They have the notch on the front belts for the shoulder harness (I wish I realized that before I bought the new set.) Best offer gets the set. Pictures are in my gallery.
  2. These are the original wingtip lights off my 1978 J. I took them off to replace them with a Whelen Orion 600 lights. Everything works fine when I took them off. This is ONLY for the lights and not the strobe boxes mounted in the wing as I already have offers for those. Best offer gets them. I have a photo in my gallery. The photo is upside down for some reason.
  3. This is the original belly beacon off my 1978 J. Took is off to replace it with a Whelen LED beacon. The motor and lights work. I'll even send you video of it working if you're like. Best offer gets it. I have photos in my gallery. The photos are upside down for some reason.
  4. I wish I had that problem... My J model only goes in the yellow while I'm in a powered decent.
  5. How can they be making money at $790 a month when they're promising "all-you-can-fly?"
  6. Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I'm installing the 7108055 Beacon.
  7. What if there's no STC but only a TSO?
  8. I'll bet I'll stir up a hornet's nest with this but here goes... I had a meeting today with a couple FAA Maintenance Inspectors, at my hangar, so they could inspect my Mooney before installing some LED exterior lighting (Nav, strobes, pos, beacon). I had completed and submitted three 337 forms for the work about two weeks ago. They said my 337s looked good and I just needed to have the IA sign the forms so they could approve it and I could start the work with replacing the lights. They specifically recommended NOT to do the installation until the work is approved otherwise my plane would be grounded until the work is approved. After the meeting I went over to my IA's hangar who says he will only sign it AFTER the work is completed and once he signs it I am legal to go fly. He said the FAA does not need to approve the 337 form. I did a search online and I believe he's correct. Nothing says the FAA has to approve the work. You just have to submit the 337 form to the FAA to let them know what you did. No where on the form is there a "Approval" box for the FAA to check, just the IA. I think it all rides on the IA's shoulders once it's approved. Is this accurate?
  9. I have an M20J and used the Whelen PAR 46. I've been pretty happy with it. I'm not sure if it will fit on an M20E though but the truth is out there.
  10. Thanks, I'm not really looking forward to this but it always looks better, not to mention more visible, to have those strobes synch'ed.
  11. Speaking of strobes, I'm going to be switching to LED wing tip strobes soon. In order to synch them together I need to run a single synch wire from wingtip to wingtip. Any suggestions on where to run this wire through? I think at a minimum I'll need to take the inspection panels off to run the wire along the existing wire but the wing root is what I'm worried about.
  12. Does the entire actuator have to come out too or can you replace the motor without removing the actuator?
  13. I also wonder what will become of the ATIS freq... ASOS/AWOS? Lets hope this is temporary which I believe it will be. The gubment loves to spend money.
  14. Thanks, that's a bit of a relief.
  15. Well, after a long and loyal life it seems my original 1978 landing gear actuator motor has decided to retire. I ordered its replacement which should be here within two days. The A&P looked at the job (Belly panel removed) and thinks it might be a little tricky because the entire actuator may have to come out with the motor in order to replace it. Does anyone have any experience with replacing this or have any idea how many hours of labor this should take? I have the smaller electric motor C145-200 and not the Dukes one. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I couldn't agree more. We owe it to our passengers and ourselves to be properly rested before flying or even driving for that matter.
  17. Yes. the product is the Whelen Orion 600. It's a single unit for each wingtip which replaces Nav, strobe and rear position lights. I don't see what there is to add to them.
  18. I recently replaced my M20J lap belts with new Amsafe seatbelts with shoulder harnesses and would like to see if anyone be interested in the old set for purchase. Make me a fair offer. This is for LAP ONLY front and rear seat belts, a set of 4 total. They came out of a 1978 M20J and they still have the tags on them. PM me with any questions.
  19. My understanding is you can be in IFR in Class G. ATC will not care and you're perfectly legal. I think the reasoning is that a lot of times ATC may not be able to radar identify you in some Class G airspace whether due to altitude or terrain or maybe just lack or radar. So you can depart IFR from a Class G airport but you need to contact ATC and receive an IFR clearance BEFORE entering controlled airspace (Class A, B, C, D or E) under IFR. I have an FAA safety inspector from the FSDO coming by my work on Friday to give us some training and I will ask him this very question and post his answer here. He's a smart guy when it comes to this subject matter. He's got an ATP, flies Gulfstreams and has really stumped us in the past with some questions regarding IFR stuff. It's always a learning experience when he comes by.
  20. Thanks for the info guys.
  21. I'm trying to prepare a 337 for some LED lights that will replace the nav lights and strobes on my 1978 J and I have to describe removing the Whelen strobe box from the plane. I looked in the avionics bay, behind the baggage compartment, but didn't see it there. I think I read that they are placed in the wing somewhere. Does anyone know where they mount it?
  22. That is a NICE panel!
  23. Anyone here care to comment and explain the "Big mixture pull?"
