My throttle friction lock likes to back out while in flight. Does a fix for this require a mechanic replacing the thottle assembly or is there anything a pilot can do to fix it?

201 not meeting performance expectations

Daniel, I have not had the chance to do the N,E,S,W averaging test in my 20J yet. But I often set the airspeed indicator against outside air temperature and it is pretty consistent. By any chance did you check you airspeed indicator corrected for temp against your averages? Also, I see you tag is in Abilene. Don Maxwell is great at rigging over in Longview. Russ -
Good job Rainmain. Can't wait to see it when done.

OK thanks. I will try this and see if the GNS is set up the same. I would think it should be.

I have a GNS 650 and have some questions about loading procedures. Arrivals - when I load a flight plan with arrival I first put in my current airport and then the destination airport. Lets say I am filing from one airport to the other with no departure from the current airport, just an arrival at the destination airport. Once both aiports are loaded I will touch the destination aiport and load procedure. I will then select the arrival and the transition and load. What happens many times is that the flight plan will load the current aiport direct to destination aiport then the procedure that eventually ends up to the destination aiport. Looking at a birdseye view of the flight plan you will see a zig zag flight plan taking you to your destination airport and back out to the transition point then back to the destination. I have to review this every time to check and most of the time have to edit the flight plan deleting the destination airport from the middle of it. I understand this may have been the same way on 430/530's. Does anyone know how to load it correctly or is this standard protocol for the Garmin?

Hey Parker, you know I thought that plane I saw in the hangar looked familiar for some reason. Are you having the interior redone? I know you had a prior Mooney done with Maxwell/AeroComfort from previous post. When I had mine done by AeroComfort a couple of weeks ago he said he was quite busy and new bookings would be delayed for a while. Just fyi. The GN650 works great. I've have had it about 2 months and working it is a beeze. Coupled to the yoke mount 496 too so flight plan shows up there too and it has weather.

Just picked up my Mooney today from annual and interior replacement and put pics in the folder. Maxwell for annual and he tore out and reinstalled refurbished interior from Aero-Comfort. Another positive of having someone like Maxwell do it is to inspect the frame and insulation. With the panels out he fixed the interior wing fuel seepage points that give you that nice smell when topped off. Not that Aero-Comfort does not do a top notch job. Just fyi.

The speed thing...How fast REALLY is plane...

I have a 1987 M20J Lean Machine. The Lean Machine has the squared windows, no wing step, less interior weight, and less factory instruments. When launched they only had one radio and no autopilot although since then mine has been upgraded to the normal assortment of gadgets with comparable weight. At 8000, WOT, 2500 RPM, 50 degress ROP I consistantly see 163 KTAS and about 11.2 GPH. -
Rainman, one the hardest things for me was chosing colors. Aero-Comfort will send you a sample kit with the materials for the panel covering, the seats and the carpet. How many shades of brown and grey are there! I just hope the color combos I chose all match up when blended together in volume. Hope to post new interior pics next week.

Gary, would you mind commenting on some of the little extra pieces that might be missing, Aero-Comfort install versus other? Thanks
-
Parker nailed it. Aero Comfort is quite busy and I combined my annual with interior.
-
Coincidentally I am going through the process with them right now. Maxwell is doing the install. Aero Comfort is very good to work with, top notch service and communication. I went there based upon this message board and their reputation especially with Mooneys. Here is the first pictures of the seats. I have not seen them in person yet.

I have had the opposite issue whereby ATC thinks because I am a Mooney they can squeeze me in front of a 737 on 6 mile final.

...yes around the outskirts of Houston, fire department services are provided by local volunteer fire departments. David appears to be the manager of the volunteer fire department. I am sure he is trained for certain types of responses but don't know how much training he has for aircraft related responses. There are gear ups every once-in-a-while and they get no press. I guess it depends upon someone calling 911 which prompt lots of dispatches including news crews.
-
http://www.click2houston.com/news/28862627/detail.html The news is calling this a crash but it is not as bad as a gear up it would appear. Although they did not indicate the type of plane a friend snapped this photo indicating a Mooney. This is my home field. I hope everything is ok.

Or it could be this. http://www.hendricksmfg.com/prod05.html JimR on this board had one for sale. I considered but my cables are all tucked along the yoke. SMCCRAY, I am based at KDWH. My 1987 is currently at Maxwell for annual.

Beautiful bird. Congratulations.

Brett, thanks. I have heard good things about the GoPro too. The software for the ContourHD is lacking a bit in that it is proprietary. You can't use Windows Media or any other editing based software to edit. Contour says they are coming out with new software versions. There are quite a few comparison videos on YouTube like this one The ContourHD does not have a remote start stop so you could not for example mount the camera on the wing of your Falcon and start and stop it via Bluetooth from the cockpit. Of course it would only remain mounted during taxi. LoL. Russ

My daughter gave me a ContourHD action camera. I have been experimenting with different mounting locations. It would be nice to mount it outside. Anyway, these are some of my first videos. http://contour.com/stories/mooney-m20j-departure--3 http://contour.com/stories/mooney-m20j-landing-kaus-austin--2 http://contour.com/stories/m20j-landing-kdwh--4 Russ

Just upgraded my Foreflight to version 4.1. At the bottom of the app it states "Coming in version 4.2....inflight weather". Can't wait.
-
That's a very nice mount Jim and I actually looked at it before but I need to stay in the yoke area due to the existing wiring.
-
I am getting my interior refurbed by Aero Comfort and am getting the sleek new leather wrapped yokes I see on many of the Mooneyspace planes. My Garmin 496 is currently mounted on the yoke via a mount that is screwed down on the top of the yoke between the hands. I really hate to punch a hole in the leather of my new yokes when I get them back. Does anyone have a favorite non-actual-yoke mount device? For those using the RAM-B-121-238U in an M20J is there plenty of clearance? Thanks

The iPad just offers so much utility other than just navigation. I use it for preflight. The weather is simple to understand and to get the big picture. Plot your course with approaches and arrivals and file at the same time in a matter of minutes. Flip over to the internet call up Flightaware and see if your plan was accepted by ATC and if not what course they are going to tell you to fly. Land at a destination airport and use Google maps to find your way around at the destination, book hotels, etc.

I have been trying to post and it has not been working so hope this doesnt post multiple times.... I changed mine this weekend. I put the new one in exactly as the old one came off. Top of "GE" is pointing at 3 o'clock facing the light and the screw post on the back of the light are vertical. I believe you can reach the adjustment screws through the cowl flap with a short screwdriver perhaps.

...I will pitch in too about AAA...top notch experience. 1. Discovery - counseling this first time plane buyer and perspective Mooney buyer on the ins and outs of Mooneys. Insider knowledge that you do not find on Google and chatboards. I get the feeling they were making sure the plane was right for me. 2. Prebuy - total disclosure of everything they knew and the previous owner knew about the aircraft. Dechipher the prebuy inspection and helping me with what is important and what can wait, etc. Helping me on valuation for future trade or sell value in regards to upgrades. 3. Transaction - handling all of the paperwork, making sure it is filed correctly. 4. Delivery - spotless airplane, checkride and setting up insurance checkride by former Mooney factory pilot(s) I hope I have not divulged AAA formula to their competition as to why I will be a repeat buyer but felt is was pertinant to explain why I am an advocate. 1987 M20J LM
