  1. Garmin Database Alert posted 26 June 2019 for KOSH ILS 36. Get updated before heading to Oshkosh.
  2. My M20J is also at HPN. I have used Weber at KLNS and 3-Wing at KBDR. I have not had any issues with either.
  3. Planning to attend all week weather permitting. See you at the tent Monday 6 p.m.
  4. Lunken (KLUK) is your best choice. Sporty's (I69) is a little farther east and Warren County (I68) is more north but if your heading into the city Lunken is your best bet.
  5. We moved our Mooney from Bridgeport to Martinsburg when Sandy approached. The attached picture is from the North Ramp area where a flying hanger took out a Mooney Lean Machine. That said I prefer KBDR to the approach over the ridge into Danbury.

  7. I appreciate the debate on the value of a biased pirep. This post was intended as nothing more than a pirep of my experience. In response to the post from DaV8or, the cost was high because there are no maintenance facilities on Nantucket and it is necessary to flly in a quailified A/P. In response to Cruiser, Signature was involved in the discussions and helped develop the testing that was performed to identify the problem. What I think is an interesting question is who is responsible for the components that are delivered with an overhauled engine. Is signature responsible for the mag that they delivered if the mag came from another shop? Should I coordinate with the mag shop or should Signature? I have no business relationship with the mag shop. As a final thought, as a retired AF officer I find johnggreen's challenge to free speach to be unfortunate although I would still fight for his right to state his opinion.
  8. Signatures response addressed three reasons it was not their fault. First, they claim the problem was simply a plugged injector. The write-up says the injectors where checked and found clear. Then they claimed the A/P was over his head and didn't know what he was doing. Finally they claimed the mag that Signature delivered with the overhaul was not theirs and was provided by another shop so it was not the engine. By the way a replacement mag was provided by the other shop at no cost.
  9. My recently overhauled engine required over $2000 in repairs which Signature Engines (Lunken Airport in Cincinnati) just called to say they wouldn't cover.
  10. also interested if schedule permits.
  11. I'm not sure how out of the way these may be for you but Muncie (KMIE) has a relly nice restaurant on the field that is open most days but should be called to confirm. Another option would be Eagle Creek (KEYE) just outside of Indianapolis.
  12. Here is a lilnk to the story and pictures. Pilot is listed as fine after an engine out off airport landing. http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/Small-plane-crashes-on-residential-Ridgefield-lawn-2198536.php#photo-1640154
  13. next time park on the west ramp if I'm guessing correctly.
  14. I too am a lefty. I use a knee board on the right leg. I tried the kneeboard on the left leg but it was too crowded to write. I also tried the wrist roll of paper from Sporty's but with no luck.

  16. I take my J to Blue Ash Aircraft in Blue Ash (Cincinnati). Not real close but closer than California. PM me if you would like some additional contact info.
  17. Mine has also been a real time saver. The first question I'm asked as I approach buildup is if I have weather in the plane. Having the same or better picture than the controller makes negotiating a deviation simple. I can deviate and keep going rather than landing and wait for a cell that's in my path to go through.
  18. My J has a working radar altimeter that has not been any trouble in the year I have owned the plane. I use it on every approach as the final indicator that I am truely not getting down and I need to prepare for the missed. I typically set it above the DH. It took me a while to incorporate it into my routine. Now I set it when I'm doing my approach brief earlier in the flight. I sometimes get false readings from dense clouds below me.
  19. Went to Mackinac Island (MCD) two years ago and had a wonderful experience. It is quite a bit farther than Put-In-Bay. Made a couple trips to Put-In-Bay for day trips. No lights for evening departures. A couple folks I know in Cincinnati said they prefer Kellys Island (89D) over Put-In-Bay. Two of my favorite locations on the easc coast are Tangier Island and Ocracoke.
  20. Try scheduling a couple sessions with Mooney instructor David Feinstein at Bridgeport CT (KBDR). I know a couple of us on this site use him for instruction. He can help with some of these questions. His email is david@newlangsyne.com
  21. My first post after purchasing a 79 201 and joining this board was ""cowl flaps wont close in flight - 1979 M20J". My AP is a magician and sprinkled all kinds of magic dust to get it working and now all is fine. He found that the open setting was way more open than spec. Also there was a bent linkage. We ended up replacing the cable. Mooney had two cables. I got the next to the last cable. End result was a new cable properly adjusted and everything works. Good luck. I can give you the name of the AP if you're around Cincinnati. I'm trying to keep it a secret as much as possible. There are also some other earlier posts on this topic that you may want to research. Good luck
  22. Martha's Vineyard (KMVY) on Saturday. The weather should be spectacular and the lobster roll is pretty good.
  23. I've been based in Frederick MD (before AOPA moved out there), Manassas VA (when there was only one runway) and Leesburg VA. I currently use Leesburg because of convenience but my preference is Manassas. And you can take the train from the Manassas airport to D.C. last I heard. I always use the FBO on the west side of the runways.
