  1. Quote: KLRDMD Don't. A previous owner removed my step and I really, really wish I had it back. I doubt that it is more than a pound for the actual step. On the other hand, if you do remove yours, how much do you want for it ?
  2. Several years ago we had a 2 seat powered parachute. Every Easter we would fly over the chruch with Easter bunny costumes on and dump 2 5 gallon buckets of candy for a bunch of very excited kids from about 300ft. We had to go to idle while dumping the candy or it would get sucked into the prop. The second year we did it we had request from about 5 other groups wanting us to do it for them also!
  3. Pre J airframes also require a hardware small parts kit which is about $35 extra. You will have to trim the plastic around the mounting bracket. The passenger side is much quicker than the pilot side. I would say 2-3 hours for both sides. If you remove the panels and work the clamp around the bar, the A&P will only be there 20 minutes or so.
  4. We just put them in our 67F last week. It is a tight fit to get the clamp around the bar. I understand it may be tighter on some planes than on others. We did it while the windows were being swapped out which made it easier to slip the clamp around the bar.
  5. Quote: KSMooniac Dave, I had low compression on two jugs thru the exhaust valves, and decided to get all 4 IRAN'd (Inspect & Repair As Necessary) to baseline them since they had 1400 hours on them before I got the plane. I ended up with new seats and guides (properly ground), 1 new exhaust valve, 4 new pistons & rings, and a fresh honing. This cured my compression issues as well as oil consumption and blow-by. The pistons were discretionary and added $600 to the total.
  6. The big difference in the overhaul cost is the cylinders. New IO360 angle valve cylinders are around $1900 each, while O360 cylinders are about 1/2 that. The other 2 big ticket maintenance items are leaky fuel tanks and Prop. These are around 10K each. I would look for newly sealed tanks, or bladders. A new prop would be a plus also with the recurrent AD on the old hubs.
  7. My 67 F still has the original OAT through the windshield. I would like to upgrade to a 201 windshield soon and was wandering what others are doing for a OAT?
  8. Keep in mind that this is a factory remanufactured engine with only 62 hrs. Even if it has damage there is still going to be may parts that are in very good condition and are still airworthy. Yes, it is possible the crank could have damage, but then there is new cylinders and many other parts that are in very good shape.

  10. Quote: flyboy0681 Today I joined the ranks as a Mooney owner. Shortly after the signing "ceremony" of N1161Z, I went up with a well qualified Mooney instructor from my new home base at Boca Raton (KBCT). He put me through quite a workout over the practice area. The stalls in landing configuration were a bit scary but I got through it. My landings were slightly better than I thought they would be and the last one of the day was very acceptable. I did not have trouble keeping the speed down and passed over the numbers at 75 knots each time. My primary concern with choosing the Mooney was my being a small person at 5'4". In reality this posed no problem because the left seat height adjustment puts me well above the panel and I can comfortably sit with the pins in the second notch. After the instructor left and I was alone by myself in the hangar, all I could say was "gulp". More to come. Mike
  11. I have been looking at windshield options and was very interested in the SWTA kit because of it's price. The kit seems complete and reasonably priced. The only downside is it is a custom windshield that you can only get from them. Here is the e-mail I recieved from them today. > I have a 67F model Mooney that I'm interested in putting a 201 style > windshield in. Does your kit use the oem windshield or is it a custom > windshield? Also what is included in the Kit? > > Thanks, > Mike Hello Mike, The windshield kit uses a windshield that we manufacture. The kit is complete with windshield, retainer strip, headliner trim, hardware, dash pad and blueprints. Everything needed for installation is included except for the sealant. At this time we are sold out of the kits. We hope to have more around the end of the year. Best Regards, Russell Stallings
  12. If the instruments on the right are any lower they will hit the yoke shaft. If the ASI and VSI are any higher they will hit the top lip of the panel behind the panel. The JPI web site says the EDM 700 is 7.5 long. I think that would be ok as long as it is kept up higher. My Turn cordinator was around 6". Kept in mind that the opening behind the panel is about 1/2 smaller than the panel itself and you have to leave a little room for the panel to move around since it is on rubber mounts. See Picture.
  13. Scroll back up several post for the picture. It is a 2 1/4 turn cordinator with nulite. The Nulight is slightly larger than the instrument. I think it is 2.4 wide by 2.6 tall. Which engine monitor do you want to put there and I will see if it will fit in the CAD file. My panel is flat, but by leaning the top back toward the pilot would allow the instrument to be a little lower and still clear the bar.
  14. Here is a picture of the bar behind the bottom left pilot side. The instrument in that corner has to be raised above it.
  15. My insurance company required that they have 20 hrs in make and model (Mooney Time).
  16. I have one, but it doesn't show very much, because the instruments are still laying in there. The only real clearance problem is around the yoke shaft and there is a depth problem in the bottom left corner. I believe if the top of the panel was leaned out a little bit it would help with the depth problem in the bottom left corner.
  17. Here is a before and after of my panel. You can get a 2X2 piece of aluminum from Spruce for about $25 and it will make 2 panels. It uses the same mounts as the original so it is just a bolt in replacement. It may not be a 201 panel, but for the price difference I'm happy with it. I plan to do something similiar for the right side. I used Nulites for lighting. They work very well. Yes, I know the old DG has to go!
  18. I been looking at different options for live radar and realized that with the change to HDTV about a year ago that a couple of the stations in our area are broadcasting continuous live radar on their side channels. There are several small portable LCD tv's (2.5 to 7 inch) on the market for less than $200. Does the TV stations in other areas have continuous live radar or weather ? Does anyone know if the HDTV signal is available up to 10,000ft?
  19. HI Ben. I'm have a new Money also. I'm Just west of you in Elba. Aircraft spruce has them. There are just south of Atlanta. On my F some of them are 8-32 and some are 10-32. I think the strip down the middle was 10-32. Some of the other cowling screws are countersunk. I ordered several of each as well as washers a few weeks ago. The washers for the countersunk ones are called tinnerman washers. www.aircraftspruce.com
  20. Quote: unicom Hi all, My aircraft will shortly be coming out of its annual maintenance, with no bad suprise has I take very good care of it. However, my maintenance store wants to replace my fuel selector valve as per the manufacturer maintenance manual (aircraft serial#24-0975). The fuel selector is an Anderson-Brass type which apparently has a potential of 500 hrs. Passed that time, it needs to be replaced for the price of €1500,00 ($2000) - not including labor !!! - Sounds enormous and before going any further, I just want to get some kind of confirmation from you guys that this part needs to be replaced. How much this fuel selector sells for in the USA ? Is this type of equipement can be overhauled ? Thanks for your answers. Philippe
  21. Has anyone else ran into "paperwork" problems with replacing the 2 pc rear window with a single window. My mechanic originally agreed to do it and after removing the old windows changed his mind and says we will not install the new ones without field approval and a 337. I've even went as for as getting the nice people at Mooney to send me a letter stating that this is a minor change and only a logbook entry is necessary. He has contacted the Birmingham FSDO and they told him to do the 337. I am now stuck with a airplane with all the windows removed. I have not got my insurance checkout yet so it would be very difficult to move it. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any other mechanics or FFA types on the forum?
  22. JPI has some pretty good rebates through the end of the year.
  23. It may be simpler to get the seller to fly the plane somewhere to get the prebuy. Even if you have to buy the gas it is still probably cheaper than paying a mechanic to load up his tools and travel. Also it may take more than one day.
  24. One other question. If the Master is on and the engine is off should the low vac light be on? Mine is not.
