  1. i use a panel mounted 396 with xm weather, and a monroy atd 300. both work great, altho lately i've started getting a few false traffic alerts on the atd.
  2. Quote: jelswick N4352H, Just curious what you mean by 201s being too underpowered to seriously consider the utility of TKS?
  3. at 9 gph???
  4. Quote: N6719N Sante Fe, New Mexico Friendly GA airport, plenty to see, awesome culture, even better food, one of my favorites...
  5. branson mo. is a nice little trip. you can visit eureka springs, arkansas from there and you are close to springfield, mo and fayetteville, arkansas. fishing, floating, hiking, silver dollar city, shopping. pretty country.
  6. we flew our 201 from olathe to st. augustine on dec. 27. it was severe clear and on the second leg(bhm to sgj) we were clocking 230 miles per hour in level flight for most of the leg. i think that's the fastest i've ever recorded in the 16 years i've owned her! we might have had a slight tailwind at 11.5.
  7. i do angel flights but i usually pick missions for kids and a parent....it's a better fit for our m20j. we regularly fly with 4 of us and our back seat is comfy once we're all belted in. these flights are usually 1.5 hours or less. 3 of us and the dog do round robbins from kc to st. augustine.....we like it!
  8. you know, there are intangibles in the marketplace. it's not all numbers and technical data. in the 70s it looked like there would only be japanese motorcycles remaining...no ducatis, no bmws, no harley davidsons. but that didn't happen. a mooney takes to the sky like a fine swimmer takes to the water...like a great dancer to music. i recently saw an acclaim parked next to one of those ungainly looking cirrus'....it was reminiscent of a victoria's secret model standing next to, i don't know.... helen thomas?
  9. Quote: N9154V difference between an Cirrus SR20 and a J? Not a lot, The customers want high performance fast aircraft. Mooney is a better product. Ron
  10. Quote: richardheitzman finance a couple engineers to bring the earlier Mooney (M20J) back into production while keeping it under 200K and BANG, you are back in business. Feaking simple.
  11. Quote: 1964-M20E We just dropped off the Arrow. I'll post some pics of the Arrow when we go back to get it in January. They guy has a decent no frills work shop. We looked at a Beech he had just completed in and out and it looked good and we toured the rest of the shop. Price seemed reasonable compared to any other Aircraft painter.
  12. Quote: 1964-M20E My longest flight was yesterday went form KNEW (New Orleans) to KMEZ (Mena AK) and back in the same day. I went up there with my neighbor to get his Arrow painted and new interior. I had to throttle back to let him keep up. About 3 hours there and 2.5 back 343nm each way. I’m looking to make a trip to Orlando but the flying gods have not deemed it worthy of good timing and weather yet.
  13. olathe, kansas to tallahassee, fl in my m20j. i'm not sure of the time but it seems like it was about 5 hours, and 722nm. we used to carry a 5 gallon coffee can on board-ha! i once flew my cherokee 140 from boca raton to olathe and remember the total trip time(with strong headwinds and stops) was about 11.5 hours....that was a long day!
  14. i'm curious as to how the max. gross weights are derived for our planes? my 1978 m20j has a very generous balance envelope, but is somewhat limited by a 2740 gross weight limit. i see that newer versions(mse) have a 2900 pound mgw, and missile conversions are rated at 3200 lbs. does anyone know what the differences are, or what the limiting factors are? i'm only curious...not looking to break any rules that are the cumulative knowledge of 100+ years of flight. thanks for any input on this topic!
  15. in the real world, after a certain point a few knots either way doesn't amount to much. i once put flap/gap seals on a cherokee 140(a lot of money at the time) and was disheartened to find that i couldn't tell any difference in my trip times. there are so many variables to consider that a couple of knots is meaningless. when i take off at sunrise in my m20j i can be a long way from home by the time it sets. i enjoy the time.

  19. joB, i have read that 180 degrees is the minimum oil temperature required to cleanse any water out(that might be suspended in the oil as a byproduct of combustion).
  20. we flew our m20j from olathe, kansas to des moines yesterday(happy thanksgiving everyone!) and had a wonderful round trip...max. gross weight, -15c at 6500, and we trued 160kts! but i'm concerned that our oil temp never topped 160 degrees. my old cherokee had a winter plate for the oil cooler to manage this problem. does anyone know if this is available for our mooneys?
  21. what's happening with that guy on the west coast of fl? i haven't been getting his unsolicited, adolescent, self agrandizing, illiterate, thinly disguised advertisements in awhile...now that you mention it, fantom!
  22. i know this won't make you feel any better, but i just bought a portable system with 25cu bottle, 4place regulator, and oxymizer cannulas for about $700. it will provide enough o2 for 3 people at 15k for over 11 hrs.
  23. i flew my io-360 almost 2300 hrs and when it was overhauled it looked fine inside. i still feel better having had it done. the last 500 hours or so were lop. by the way, i added an air/oil separator at o/h and really like the benefits.
  24. thank you richard...i will start at the cluster guage connections as i have recently had the glareshield off to install a panel mount for the garmin 396....i also put a new com radio in just last week.
  25. thanks for the advice, jeff. i think you're right about the ground....my mooney is actually older... a '78. it looks newer as it has "round windows" and a 252 paint scheme
