  1. I don't much care about this little dispute of props...all i know is that my plane looks dead sexy with the polished pointy spinner and 3 blades. As long as my blades dont shoot off when spinning, I am perfectly ok with the miniscule vibrations i get from it...if i even feel it
  2. I am not sure if anyone would know this off the top of their head but any ideas on the costs of a new alternator for a M20B/C O-360? My mechaninc just told me a tab which holds the bolt in it broke off somehow on mine so I am guessing I will need a whole new alternator. I doubt they can just reattach a mounting tab...can they? Thanks in advance
  3. oooo that would be a nice little mod. Those stock lights scare me when they get so hot
  4. ^ yeah i think that one would be a better buy with the motor time and all
  5. but paying these big bucks will still get you a plane to own with a new motor and an increased value. Just dont plan to have a "Liquid" investment
  6. Saw one today and WOW, what a gorgeous plane! Hopefully one day I will be flying one . Ill try to upload some pics later
  7. Quote: KLRDMD ummm...as i understand it the 3-bladed prop is to reduce vibration and remove the prop AD as well in the process.
  8. Quote: KLRDMD There are only a couple of things I don't like about the one you referenced. One is the three bladed prop. In general, three bladed props have more vibration than two bladed ones and in general the three blades suffer in cruise by a few knots. The other is the engine time is very near TBO (and the prop time is high too). If you're looking at that one, also consider this 1966 E that a friend of mine has for sale.
  9. dont know but im kinda in the same boat. My red indicator light for gear unsafe flickers and is dying until i push to test. The contact in the back is nearly missing. I would possibly try tweezers with some rubber on it (maybe a streched rubber band) to grip and twist the bulb out
  10. Quote: fantom Back in the "old days" NDB way the way we learned to fly approaches. They still easily get you in the ballpark, if/when GPS and VOR is shut off and our expensive gizmos can't help. Plus you can listen to music for free :-)
  11. Yeah that is a very VERY nice F. I would guess there may have been a prop strike considering the new front end but since it was all fixed I wouldnt worry too much so long as it is signed off airworthy
  12. I thought some metal traces were more common in engines fresh out of overhaul vs older motors since they are still being broken in and the metal is that process happening. Now i do not know if they consider 225 hours still being broken in or not but it seems low time to me (but i have no idea what the break in time is). I have had my oil analyzed the each time I do an oil change since i have 2100hours (approx) on my motor just to track if there are more tracings than normal and when I asked the analysis company, and multiple mechanics, if i should be concerned about flying a high time motor like this....they all said no so long as I track the tracings of metal. They say though that mine is broken in well and there are very little readings of metal on the analysis at all, but my thought process is that it is an old and broken in motor while a new one will show more wear on the report. Is this accurate...? *knock on wood*
  13. Congratulations man! I think I learned the most about controlling a plane when going for my instrument ratings (and ive done a lot including aerobatic courses). You'll love it but just be careful with it.
  14. I'm very jealous of you all haha! I was planning on going out there but finances just are not in order enough to go this year. Maybe I can join next year's adventures. Enjoy all and fly safely!
  15. yeah i use a metal polish from the auto store as well. It works well for the most part. It doesnt take out all the small scratches but gets most of them and definitely makes it look very reflective/bright and shiney
  16. Quote: DaV8or That's what I do unless I'm short on time or just tired. I'll stop on the way home at a place like Rio Vista, or Byron and tank up at a dollar per gallon cheaper and then fly home. The upside is, you get to do one extra landing for practice on each flight!
  17. some guys talk about using this on their spinner and landing/taxi light covers. Sounds like they say it works miracles so you may want to give it a shot. If nothing more shoot them a PM and ask them first hand. Here is the link to the thread http://mooneyspace.com/index.cfm?mainaction=posts&forumid=3&threadid=1338

  19. geez...and I just registered mine......well, i guess the plane is driaining more money out of me already lol.
  20. I wasnt about to search through the entire 6 pages to see if this is a repost but I figured I should post it since I saw some of you saying XM weather is not possible on an ipad just yet....Well your ipads are about to become capable of not only Live weather but also ADS-b. Check it out: http://www.skyscope.net/ now the antenna is costly at 1200 bucks, however for free ADS-B coverage and weather services with the proper antenna will far par for itself over time. I believe it is still in a testing phase to getting approved with the FAA but it IS on the way
  21. Quote: scottfromiowa What would concern me is if this is a new trend...always was centered in middle of green, but now has moved to top of green arc...change in "normal" is my que that something, whether gauge, probe, wires, cowl flaps, oil cooler, oil lines, angle of climb, outside temps is significantly different and maybe NOT functioning properly. I have issues right now with my stock cylinder head temp probe as it is now reading in the 200 range when my GEM is 300-325 for all cylinders... My oil pressure and temps have remained consistent on my gauges (steady in th green) during climb and cruise since I purchased...my mechanic fought high oil temps with another E he works on. His had the oil cooler re-location and a spin on oil filter, but was otherwise stock with baffles in good condition. I can't recall if he had a cowl closure (lower guppy) installed. Anytime you are near peak on a gauge I would attempt to identify what is causing the issue. Please update when you sort it out...Good luck, Scott

  23. Quote: DaV8or Me and another guy, sadly I can't remember his name, but he had a C and was from Petaluma I think, were checking out your plane quite a bit. I didn't know it was yours, but it looks pretty nice and it was fun to check out all the little things Mooney changed over the years. It would be fun some time at a big fly in to park mostly stock Mooneys in chronological order so people could walk down the line and see the evolution. Again though, your plane looks pretty sharp and I do have a soft spot for the round windows. They look really good with the 201 windshield IMO.
  24. @sven: ok i got it now. I just took a guess because i followed someone in a cherokee and took a guess that you may have rented to get there but then again...you're right, santa rosa isnt that far to begin with as for Jackson/Westover....I was looking at that on the VMG site but i thought it was in Oregon and not at the Jackson in Amador county? If it is the Jackson here in Amador I will be there for sure as its about a 10 minute flight from me haha.
