Phoenix the next few days

Quote: Sven This was my first VMG event and I have to say I was very impressed. It was great to experience the family atmosphere and all the friendly folks who reched out to me (being by myself) and made me feel welcome. It was great to meet you, Jolie Lucas and Phil Corman. It was also great to talk with all the folks at LASAR, Top Gun, and even Don Maxwell. I think it was announced that over 45 Mooneys made it to celebrate the hard work of some very deserving people. The BBQ was top-rate, the entertainment was engaging and the friendship is something I'm looking forward to fostering. Thanks especially to Paul and Shery for their generous hospitality and to their staff for making us feel so welcome.

Phoenix the next few days

I went to embry riddle out in Prescott so i know the whole area well. Sedona is a must but make sure u keep ur approach steeper as it gives a nasty illusion you are high to begin with, causing most pilots to fly low and smack into the back of the aircraft carrier. Another great place is Payson...they have great pie but dont mess up on the radios cuz everyone will hear since there are speakers throughout the restaraunt. In prescott there is Suzies cafe which is decent. As for the phx area...Falcon Field. There is a Higher end restarant called Anzios which is amazing for a fly in place. Bring your checkbook tho, but if your lucky, you'll get to park next to their B-25 Mitchell show bird. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I was actually just there last week -
I am. There is a group called Mooney Pilots which is pretty cool. Everyone uploads pics and comments

I fly with an e6-b equipped Seiko http://cgi.ebay.com/SEIKO-AEROSPACE-PILOT-SLIDE-RULE-CHRONO-WATCH-NR-SND253-/220637759525?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Wristwatches&hash=item335f090825

well....thanks to the LASAR fly in i now know that new tanks are not in store for me. YAY! .....however...new shock disks all around are and eventually new wing rivets since i am a "B". At least there is an 8500 buck budget saved compared to the 3K for the shocks

Oil pressure and Oil Temp...M20B/C
conom06d replied to conom06d's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
ok thanks guys. Ill keep an eye out on those temps and press readings. I dont think i have any fouled plugs as that was the first thing i had them clean. I think i was just a worry wart as it was my first time with the plane at a high DA location. All seems well now though but i will get used to noticing my needle movements -
So I woke up this morning and noticed this was today and ran to the plane and flew my way there. It was a great event amd i learned a lot about mY aircraft. I saw DaV8oRs Mooney which was a beaute, Ill post A pic of it when i get oFf work. Mine was the Brown white and orange "B" model. PS. I won the YOUNGEST pilot award and tied for oldest mooney ;-)

Quote: DaV8or The whole deal cost me just under $75. It really didn't take that long. Of course they can probably tell I'll likely come back... so just like the heroin dealer, the first one is free!

sweet, i think ill give them a call sometime early next week and set up an appointment. Is there anyone in particular I should ask for to help me? also, how much did they charge you to drain the gallon from the tank and sample it and check the filters? Yeah the FAA can definitely be a headache for us when it comes to getting STC's certified/re-certified, however, being in a "B" model like myself there really arent to many mods i want to do....let alone afford haha. I do feel the pain about the wingtips tho

great news on the fuel tanks! So you went to top gun? Is that the one in stockton? I called Lasar and they directed me up to the companies in oregon but i'd like to get it checked like you did prior to getting this taken care of and i'd probably go to Top Gun.

Quote: DaV8or Well, the current pricing on their website is $7,750 for the 64 gallon tanks just for the kit. The labor is estimated at 50 hours, so in my area that equates to about $4500, I guess I could travel to a cheaper labor area somewhere, but I can't see getting the labor charge under $2500 if it really is 50 hours. They do offer a $100 discount to MAPA members and maybe they will do a deal at Oshkosh, so I'll be asking them.

how hard would it be and what would be involved to swap from a 180hp O-360 to a 200hp IO-360? Also, any ideas on cost and is it worth the price for the performance gains? Also, would i have a problem with my current alternator setup and 3-bladed prop setup if i were to make the transition? Let me know if u need more info (i.e. type of prop) as i would need to look at it on the plane tomorrow. Thanks Jason

I have a 1961 M20B with a motor which has 2077 hours on it. I am currently in Prescott, AZ which is at 5000 feet elevation and is normally 90-95 degrees, which probably puts DA around 6500' on average. My issue is... last 4-5 hours, plane has been running rough slightly and feels more like it is straining to takeoff and climb. I know this is probably due to the DA mentioned above and the heat. My concern is that my oil temp gauge has been reading high in the green arc close to the red line on the old style gauge. I think this is probably cuz of the heat lately. My other concern is that the oil pressure is usually in the high green arc to mid yellow arc depending on planes weight and OAT. Should I be worried at all about these indications in these such old gauges? I have a feeling I am being just a bit paranoid but would prefer some others inputs on their experience with the O-360 at high altitude and high OAT's. Once i get the plane leveled off it generally becomes more smooth but even at 9500' here its been around 20-30*C. Thanks in advance Jason

Quote: fantom As long as you remember to look outside once in a while. IMHO, all the glass, multipe GPS's, and PC's are major contributing factor to mid airs. Be careful up there!

have any of you seen the new ADS-B antenna which can connect to an ipad or iphone? Supposedly the FAA is still passing the application and device but it should be a much cheaper and jsut as accurate solution by providing all of us an ads-b equipped aircraft. personally i have used ADS-B throughout my training when i was at Embry-Riddle. i loved being able to see the aircraft around me as well as wx and terrain. It saved me many a time by enabling me to know my surroundings better. It is definitely a great safety device and can definitely see how the FAA will require it for everyone, however, i still think it is very possible to fly without one. I do not have one in my plane now but i would like one if they ever lower the price
