www.aircraftpaintschemes.com not for Mooneyspace
Mac201 replied to Mac201's topic in General Mooney Talk
OK, Jeff you know that I am the man of the house and I can do what I want... Yes, I think my girl is on board for paint and interior. I am looking for shops; talked to Tri- D in Wetumpka, AL this week. Any prireps on them? I am excited to look at schemes, sorry for my grumpy post this morning. -
I am preparing to repaint my J model. I was excited to begin looking at paint schemes, so I paid my $39.99 to sign up for .aircraftpaintschemes.com. What a waste of my money. They only have 30 Mooney schemes and most all are old and completely outdated. So, I have parted with my $40. Anyone considering the site, do not waste your money. Any suggestions on goods places to review cool Mooney schemes?

What are the best W&B tools or ipad apps that you use.

Thanks to each of you for your help. My trim motor is mounted above the jack screw rod in the tailcone acces panel. It has a chain that drives the jack screw, so it is directly connected. My mechanic is working on it tomorrow, so I will post again.

My trim jammed this weekend.

Get the same nav data from Jepp for less. At least I know they have it my GNS430 so they should have for GTN series.

Pitch oscillation with Century 2000 Autopilot
Mac201 replied to mikefox's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thanks for the suggestions. In further conversations with the Century tech, the static line would not effect attitude mode. I am having problems in both attitude and atltidude modes with aggressive pitch changes, sometimes nose up, but usually nose down. The AI and the computer have now been bench tested by Century and Autopliots Central. My avionics guy wants me to now take the plane to Autopilots Central, while the Century tech on the phone says he does not have any more suggestions for field repairs and that I should bring the plane to them. Does anyone have experience with onsight repairs at either Century or Autopilots Central. Thanks -
Pitch oscillation with Century 2000 Autopilot
Mac201 replied to mikefox's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thanks Jetdriven. I have had both servos rebuilt by Century. They also rebuilt the pigtail on the AI and bench checked the computer. The system and servos pass the preflight test. We can check the static lines, both the AP has abrupt pitch changes when in attitude and altitude modes without speed changes. I do not think it is reading static pressure in attitude mode but not sure. -
Pitch oscillation with Century 2000 Autopilot
Mac201 replied to mikefox's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Well, we have not found the problem with my Century 2000 AP. We sent the AI and the computer to Autopilots Central in Tulsa; both bench checked OK. Then we cleaned all the connections again in the back of the computer tray, no joy. Now have rebuilt the connectors and all wiring from the computer. I tested it today, no joy. Not sure where to go now. Does anyone have a recommendation for a great AP troubleshooting shop in the Southeast? Thanks. -
Flying North in the J!! NV, WA, BC, ID, MT, CO, AK
Mac201 replied to Jeev's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Have great trip. It looks like lots of flying fun. Not sure if you have a connection to Billings, MT, but we have visited Bozeman several times when our son was in school there. I would always choose Bozeman over Billings. It's a really cool town in the valley, but it does not look like your schedule allows you to stay and enjoy very much anyway. Just a thought. -
1st annual in the Atlanta area...or beyond!
Mac201 replied to mulro767's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Joey Cole, MSC, did my annual a couple of months. It was not cheap, but I had several repairs that needed to be completed, most of which I knew of before the plane went in to him. I found him to be very knowledgable and good to work with. I will go back next year. -
Webspinner, when you get your new F or before, be sure to join the SE Mooney Assoc. Jeff who trolls here has been planning some fun fly-ins. I think the next one is the pancake breakfast in Gainsville, GA in July. Good luck in your search. As previously mentioned, Joey Cole at RMG is probably one of your most knowledgable on Monney's in this area.

Just replaced my mains with Condors after advice from my MSC. We will see how they do.

Pitch oscillation with Century 2000 Autopilot
Mac201 replied to mikefox's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
My avionics A&P had a long conversation with Autopilot Central today. I have decided to send the attitude indicator and AP computer to them to troubleshoot. After spending plenty of money at Century on repairs, I just do not have confidence in them. I will post how it goes. -
Pitch oscillation with Century 2000 Autopilot
Mac201 replied to mikefox's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I have had the same problem with my Century 2000 along with other recent expensive repairs at Century, including rebuilding the pitch and roll servos. When troubleshooting the sharp pitch changes, Century tech support recommended that we send the attitude indicator and computer in to them for service. We did and they rebuilt the pigtail on the attitude indicator reporting that it was sending intermittent signals and they bench checked the computer. All components were reinstalled last week. I test flew on Monday and still have the same pitch problems. The AP works well for about five to ten minutes then begins aggressive pitch down movement in both attitude and altitude modes. Other times it has been pitch up movements. I am very frustrated and tired of paying! I guess it's back to Century. -
I need help Finding a Pre-Purchase Specialits
Mac201 replied to nicorico's topic in General Mooney Talk
Joey Cole, Cole Aviation, MSC, is is Rome, GA. Just don't get him distracted before he finishes my annual! -
We flew down Friday morning and left Sunday morning. I felt like the displays and the show were busy on Saturday, but there seem to be many less planes in GA parking. I was surpised at how the outdoor vendors had put everything back together by Friday. After hearing of the muddy prop strikes, I am glad we paid the extra to park at the FBO on the north side. It was an absolutely beautiful flight on the way home. We could see Atlanta and the north georgia mountains from Macon. Spring Break for pilots was great, but I missed the wet t-shirt contest!

I would think that two five day sessions is a great structure for the training. I did mine in an eight day course and it was good, but very concentrated, almost too much. I would have preferred your two session ten day program. Listening to others, training each week or so can drag out. So, enjoy your training and the clouds! Good luck.

I was working on a group of my CAP frineds to go and camp for a night. Jeff, I was counting on you joining us. You need to get your schedule priorites straight. Maybe we will go on the weekend. Would love to meet other Mooney-ites there.

Tried to post. I try again. Interest rates will most likely be higher by the end of the year. If you have the resources, you may consider reducing the loan balance now and go ahead with refinancing while rates are lower. Just a thought. Good luck.

interesting point about sump drain from accident
Mac201 replied to craigsteffen's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
In the 92 MSE POH, the sumps are drained after all exterior checks and then entering the cockpit. I was concerned about this and started to reverse the procedure to before the exterior checks. Then I remembered that if you drain the sump before sumping the tanks you could draw water into the fuel lines. So, I have stayed with the POH procedure. -
I was having trouble smoothly rounding out, and a Mooney experienced instructor suggested that I put in nose up trim during final. Now I set the trim nose up about half way between take off trim and full nose up by the time I cross the fence. I am holding my aim point with forward pressure on the yoke. In the flair, I am releiving the downward pressure and then slightly up. This has worked much better for me for a smoother round out and controlling the heavy nose. Congratulations on your new bird!

Instrument Rating in M20K with non-Mooney CFII
Mac201 replied to flyboy0681's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
It's my opinion that a good CFII that you relate to well is best, but it is helpful to have an experienced Mooney instructor for initial checkout. Last year I used a Mooney guy for my insurance required 10 hours, then used my long time instructor for instrument proficiency. It worked well for me. As posted before, focus on your power settings initially. -
Thanks for the responses. We have noticed that one of the turn limit stops is broken off, but there does not appear to be further damage to the tubes. We are trying to find if this is a repairable part or if it must be replaced. From what I read on other posts, this is a fairly common occurance. So, up on jacks next week. Thanks again.
