  1. Actually, only 1 WAAS feed remains: WAAS satellite failure cuts signal to one One of two satellites providing Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) coverage is experiencing technical issues and will soon discontinue its broadcast. The FAA does not anticipate any immediate impact to service, but the remaining satellite will be the only one broadcasting the WAAS signal in space; WAAS users may experience temporary service outages due to lack of redundant geostationary satellite (GEO) signals if a switch between the primary and backup GEO uplink stations occurs. 2. Well, one of the 2 WAAS satellites will be dead in a very short time. I wonder how quickly they will respond to get the system back to spec. Don't pull out your VOR equipment, yet ... " Because GEO signals will be single string, there may be service interruptions if the GEO uplink stations switch from primary to backup. These switchovers are rare events, but if one occurs it may take up to 5 minutes to fully restore LPV service. The impending failure of this satellite—which only affects WAAS signals—comes at a time when there are questions about the regular GPS constellation. The U.S. Government Accountability Office has said that many of the older satellites currently in use could reach the end of their operational life faster than they can be replenished, resulting in a drop below the number of satellites needed to meet some GPS users’ needs, as early as this year. 3. I use Anywhere Pocket Plates on a Viliv tablet (known in Anywhere map land as the Duo). I really enjoy it. The size is excellent for yoke mounting and I particuarly like that it interfaces with the GPS and shows my aircraft on the approach plate.
  4. Is BLee a BLonde ?? )
  5. I agree with Don. Running a battery flat DOES take a bit life out of it. Allowing it to stay flat for an extended period of time will kill it.
  6. AOPA ... 300 hours total time, 50 hours in complex, 20 of those hours in HP, $50,000 hull + $1Mil = $1400/yr. Not too bad ...
  7. BOY !! That was weird !!!
  8. Alan ... I see you fly out of Jeffco!! I will be flying out there in May. I actually bought a Mooney so I can make it out to Boulder (where my daughter lives) to see her twins. Their 1st birthday is in May. Flew out commercially to see them when they were born and HATED IT. Decided I REALLY needed a fast plane to get out there without all the hassle. 200 mph would be nice, but I'm gonna have to be satisfied piddling along @ 163 ... (PS - my daughter works at the National Renewable Energy Labs just up the street from Jeffco ... )

  16. Where can I get a license plate frame like that ??
  17. Although I had partners on my previous planes, I do not have one with my present one. I have a rather extensive agreement which has worked for me in the past. I will look for it when I get home and get it to you. When choosing a partner, there are more than agreements to consider. In particular, how someone takes care of their equipment comes immediately to mind. I always screened my "partners" by looking at how they took care of their car ... their shop, etc. You really want to find someone who has the same type of "mindset" as you do towards your earthly goods. No piece of paper can fix a problem where you find that your partner has been doing things to your investment which you would not consider doing, yourself. Remember that your partner may own a piece of the aircraft buy he will use ALL of the aircraft.
  18. I just flew my new (to me) plane back from San Antonio two weekends ago. I coupled the Brittan Nav2B to the 430 and it worked beautifully. I tried the heading, track and capture functions and all worked as they should with the newer equipment.
  19. I'd really like to thank everyone for their comments. There have been quite a few ideas and I have been surfing the web to find out about them. What I like the EFB for, is you never have to worry about having the right piece of paper onboard regardless of what happens with the wx, etc. The XM WX is also very cool. All the Very best ... and have a Merry Christmas ... Barry in WV
  20. Hi ... I'm in the market for an electronic flight bag. There are a LOT of them out there and I'm wondering if anyone would like to share their experience with them. The ones I know about are: Garman, Anywhere Map, Av89or Ace by King, Flightprep. There may be more that I am not aware of. I've already completed a search and couldn't find any info on this topic. It may be of interest to others ... All the best ... Barry in WV
  21. So what I am hearing is that the Vintage Mooney Group is expanding out to other areas of the country ... A national Mooney Group would be very cool. I'm retiring soon and would really like to fly to the left coast to some flyin's. All the best ... Barry in WV
  22. I am in the process of purchasing an M20-C. Along with the plane comes a new hub to replace the one on the plane. What would be a good estimate of the costs of the work of replacing the hub if the blades are OK?? Thanks
