  1. Here is a picture of it.
  2. Quote: DaV8or Wow. Sounds like a great little box for just $250! It seems like there ought to be a way to wire it to include the mechanical gear down indicator on the floor. I don't know Mooney systems all that well, but it seems like the light on the panel isn't that useful and it's the one in the floor that matters, so it seems as though it would be just a matter of running a wire from the floor area to the box instead of using the signal in the panel.
  3. Quote: hansel Seems like a pretty cool box and at an attractive price. I wonder if it works with the JPI 700?
  4. Quote: Parker_Woodruff Mine was installed in the mid-90s surprisingly. Just got the yokes back...
  5. On my J the gear warning is triggered when the speed gets below 65kts OR the powerlever is retared to idle (below approx. 12inch). With a ANR headset the warning is not very loud. I installed the EI voice anunciator, it is connected to the audio panel and says "check landing gear". It is hard to miss that. I use the voice anunciator for the EDM, low vacuum and stall warning, too.
  6. Quote: Kwixdraw Add Performance Engines to your list. They are on the field at POC. Quoted me $23k for the IO-360 in my J. Balanced w/ new cylinders from Lycoming flowed and intake balanced.
  7. M20J 205: 890 lbs, but without gross weight increase. With the increase it goes up to 1.050lbs. Then it is a almost 4 people aircraft with full fuel. Edit: Just saw you are looking for values from vintage Mooneys
  8. Quote: donshapansky I have the trip card for the 530 with adaptor (at hideous garmin prices) and the Samsung downloads my flight through USB to the card, get in the airplane slip the terrain card out and download my trip or trips in a few seconds, reinstall the terrain card and all the flightplans are ready to cue up.
  9. Quote: rogerl ...So far, am not particularly happy that a 1 week estimate is now at 3 weeks - but that seems to be pretty standard with folks working on aircraft - can't (or won't) estimate realistic completion dates. Aspen publishes something like 40 to 50 hours for a standard install time. ...
  10. Just yesterday I looked at N401RK, it is adverised in Europe, too. How much did you pay, asking price (delivered to Europe) was US$126.000. A really nice aircraft, very good choice. Get a GPSS to get the maximum out of the 530/Century 2000 combo.
  11. Quote: Piloto The PowerFlarm is a novel concept. But 99% of the GA fllet in the world is Mode C only equipped. To display this traffic on a map you need to have Mode C direction capability. Otherwise is no better than the Zaon MRX that sells for $500USD. If I wait for the ADS-B 2020 mandate I may not need an airplane to fly because I may have my own feather wings flying with these cuties. José
  12. Quote: Jeff_S I'll definitely keep watching the Powerflarm...at 1500 euros it's not a spur-of-the-moment decision but if it gets some good reviews in the general aviation magazines then it would seem to be a very nice addition.
  13. Quote: Jeff_S The PowerFLARM looks interesting. I've got the ZAON MRX which does a decent job of detecting when traffic is around. Unlike the Monroy, there's no external antenna so it doesn't show direction of traffic, but it does show proximity, altitude difference and rate of change so it at least reminds you to start looking.
  14. There is a new system coming out, the Powerflarm (www.powerflarm.de, you can switch the language on the top right). It does the same like the Monroy without the external antenna (so it doesn't have direction for Mode C transponders), but it has ADS-B. It seems to be the first ADS-B receiver to show traffic in a portable system. It shows Mode C/S targets with distance and altitude, ADS-B and FLARM targets have the direction, too. Flarm is a system used mainly by gliders in Europe, it uses a GPS for the position and broadcasts it. Other units receive the data and show the position. It will interface with all major GPS brands like Garmin 496/696 and runs on batteries, too. Seems to be a complete solution (all different systems in one box), the only drawback is that it lacks direction for Mode C. I played with one at the Aero fair in Friedrichshafen, it is very compact and the screen is great. I'll give a Pirep when it is available.
  15. IMHO there is a mod for older Mooneys available, but I can't find the website anymore. Have you called LASAR?
  16. Quote: JimR Our own Parker Woodruff in Waco, TX is who you want to see. I'm sure that he will respond to you shortly if he has not already. Jim
  17. I wouldn't touch it. Without the engine you can't fly it, so you won't know if something isn't the way it should before you paid for it. It is also harder to get a good prebuy at the place you prefer. Buying cheap can get very expensive. I don't understand why they don't put in the engine (or get a overhaul if necessary) and get more money for it. Someone wants to get rid of it. In the aviation noone is giving something away for free.
  18. Hello, I want to get my FAA-IR this summer/fall and as I fly a 205 here in Germany I am looking for a CFII with a J to get my license. I plan to get it done within 2-3 weeks, flying 4-6 hrs a day doesn't bother me. As I'd have a place to stay in the Richmond area I'd prefer that, but somewhere else would be fine, too. I have around 400hrs, approx. 200hrs in the Mooney. I have a US and European PPL and already passed the written IR and CPL. So if you are a CFII with a J model and would like to train me or if you know someone who would, please send me a PM.
  19. Quote: Donmoss I watched while my A&P bled my brakes, using a pressure pot pushing the brake fluid in from the bottom of the wheel cylinders. As he finished up, I noticed brake fluid dripping from the center of one joint on the belly panels. He is going to check next week. What is likely going on. I'm sure he will do it right, but I would like an unbiased opiniom. Donmoss
  20. The G500 looks really good (but I haven't flown one yet), but IMHO you have to pay at least 10 AMU's more. The unit costs more and the installation is more time consuming. And it doesn't work with non Garmin avionics. So if you want some backup, you have to buy another SL-30. Does it have battery backup? If money doesn't matter I think it'd be nice to have the bigger screens (esp. for approach charts).
  21. Quote: mikefox Gear speed: no need to drop gear at substantially low airspeed. If gear speed is 133 kias, then 120-125 is certainly good. The issue with dropping or operating at higher speeds may not be the static loads on the gear or doors, but could be flutter or other dynamic loads. As an aeronautical engineer, I would be tempted not to mess with the gear speed on the high end, unless one knows exactly why the speed was set where it was. But it should not be necessary to use a very low speed - there should be sufficient margin in the design. I use 120-125 as it gives me enough margin that I know I won't exceed Vle or Vlo.
  22. I have the Aspen Pro, Century 2000, 430W and KX155. The Aspen shows the tuned frequency of the Garmin but not of the KX155. GPSS works great with the Century, it is really smooth. If you want to get rid of your vacuum system you can buy a replacement for the Century AI: http://www.tghaviation.com/Castleberry-Lighted-Electric-Attitude-Gyro-p/504-0006-965.htm IMHO the Aspen is really worth the money. It is the best investment I made (besides the EDM830).
  23. The 700/730/800/830 are all a 701. They all share the same STC.
  24. Quote: ehscott I typically saw 35" at max power. He pressurized the system and used soapy water and everything looked normal except one area on the exhaust around a coupling that was leaking more than should be expected. I plan to get that fixed first and see if that does the trick. The search continues but man does it bug me to not have the engine running right. I am a stickler when it comes to engine performance and I don't like it when it is not running on all cylinders.....figuratively speaking.
