  1. Oh ok I figured I could find toggle switches with the breakers in them as well. I bought this plane about a year ago and it's got a panel that won't need an upgrade for a decade plus ideally, so I'll probably need new switches before doing much else.
  2. What am I legally allowed to change myself? Can I swap these out myself? I can take things apart and put them back together fine (most of the time), but I don't know a whole lot about electrical (I know basics, but don't know when I'm screwing something up necessarily) -- I assume these should be pretty trivial to swap out though.
  3. I like the look and feel of the toggle switches best anyways, so that's part of the motivation. I'm just not sure if a toggle switch will fill out all the space the current switch does in the panel.
  4. How do I tell if the breakers are having issues? Everything seems to be functioning fine but a couple of the covers are either popping off or rubbing when actuating them.
  5. Fair enough, guess I could have answered that myself. that's exactly what I want to do in my panel though, I have old switches that are starting to fall apart.
  6. What do toggle switches look like?
  7. That's funny that's my exact set up too, plus green on the pfd and radio 1
  8. Here's the accident I was thinking of, no photos though https://planecrashmap.com/plane/ca/N254SR/
  9. Ya that makes me remember over a decade and a half ago I went up with a cirrus sales rep because they were at the airport (I was like 20, not gonna buy anything) and did all the maneuvers to see what the plane was like, flew great, felt very safe. Couple weeks later I was flying back from Vegas with 3 adults in a 172 and could not get the plane to descend to land (updrafts gave us 1k fpm climb with full power out). I heard the next day the same sales pilot had the plane just north over the mountains with big downdrafts and crashed and the photos showed nothing but an engine and what looked like melted plastic scattered everywhere. A full cage probably wouldn't have helped, but it was a pretty striking image to see nothing really left.
  10. Maybe 2 years ago I remember I had never seen a mooney up close and in person (maybe I was just blind), but now on the west side at KSBP I counted at least 7 Mooney's on tie downs. I wanted to start a conversation and see if any of these owners are on the forum here, and if so I want to share advice and tips. In particular I'm trying to track down two electrical issues I've posted about here (low cruise volts and intermittent gear warning CB tripping) and looking for advice on a mechanic that can help me, but also if anyone just wants to chat about their planes or needs help with anything, I want to connect.
  11. Can you share a photo of what you did to reinforce it?
  12. I've occasionally been having a similar issue (but the CB resets fine after actuation of the gear). In my case I think the issue is with the annunciator panel because (with the plane on the ground and power off) if I lift up the glare shield and push on/fiddle with the wires in the back of the annunciator panel, the issue is resolved. That's worked twice with a couple of months between issues (I need to get the actual issue figured though)
  13. Ya it hadn't been in a shop since the pre buy/annual the year before, and that was a different shop. I did my own oil change with a friend midyear and I now know what else to check while doing that.
  14. Occasionally in flight my right side will drop to zero fuel in the tank and if I rock the wings it'll go back up to whatever it's actually at (eg 20 gallons). I have a 79 J, is that similar to the issue you had?
  15. What I'm most interested in is that at my first and most recent annual the shop said the bottom bracket for my dual mag was missing and the top one wasn't on that well either -- they said it likely wasn't torqued right. On the day I took off to take it to the shop it was 500ft overcast, which is lower than I normally take off with, idk what it would have been like if I lost my engine. I want more redundancy.
  16. I have not done this to my J, but I've been curious, what issues are you having? There are a number of posts on this topic already as well btw, Google search may be better than the forums search, one example
  17. Anyone investigating why this is happening? I'm just using the default Verizon DNS settings on my phone, but I haven't heard of them having any broader issues. If changing DNS servers gets around the issue, that's great, but it would be good to understand what's actually wrong.
  18. Changing DNS to what? Adding a manual override? I've been in Montreal for the last week and have been seeing the site unreachable occasionally from my phone and some when I was in California earlier this month.
  19. How long ago was that?
  20. I need this, my J needs left rudder while cruising to stay coordinated, but then banks left pretty quickly, but I'm on the west coast...
  21. Looks like I have a plane power 10-1050-1 alternator and a plane power r1224 VR that were both installed in 2021. I need to do some reading on what I can configure.
  22. I believe this is the voltage regulator, (fortunately have photos from my last oil change) which is a plane power, I need to find details about the alternator, but I believe it's also a plane power. Looking back at my old photos, I guess even when I got the plane a year ago it was reading 13.2. I'm not sure why more recently it was reading 13.8 just before the annual, maybe something finicky with the wiring. At startup and through runup right now the voltage reads above 13.8, it's just in cruise it seems to be lower than what I used to see, but the same as what I saw when I first bought it a year ago... I guess I should have been paying more attention. Changing load in flight doesn't seem to affect the reading.
  23. I have a 79 J model and I got my plane back from annual at the beginning of this month. Nothing with the electrical system was touched, but I've noticed in cruise that my bus voltage is around 13.2 rather than 13.8, which is what I used to see while in cruise. Everything seems to be working fine, but I'm not sure why the bus voltage is so different and if I need to be concerned about something. The battery is a Concorde that I replaced about a 10 months ago at this point.
  24. CPI measures a lot of things that may be skewing it. In my personal experience, there is currently very noticeable inflation for day to day life.
  25. I took my plane in for my first annual and the shop said the lower mounting bracket on the dual mag was missing. Terrifying thought.
