Pre-Buy M20C in Placerville, CA
katzhome replied to Fly.guy.guidry's topic in West Coast Mooney Club
Yikes! Even more backed up than when I did it last year. Per @MooneyMitch in this thread below, it is more SoCal focused, but had some good options. Prebuy Shop Needed in Southern California Coastal Valley Aviation, SMX, are quite knowledgeable on Mooneys. Several Mooneys on our field currently use, and have used CVA over the past 20 years or so. D,C,E,F, J, R,S,M models included. I’ve used them on many occasions. Quality work, with a trustworthy reputation, at fair prices. I should add that @kortopates had some opinions and possibly some other options he references at the end of the thread. Good luck! -
Pre-Buy M20C in Placerville, CA
katzhome replied to Fly.guy.guidry's topic in West Coast Mooney Club
I agree with @C.J., Top Gun is often busy, but did a very good job on my pre-buy in 2022 for my J. It is only about 50nmi away in a straight shot to fly to Stockton from Placerville as well. -
All, End of year price reduction. Got this unit used last year for my M20J and purchased a new charger and second battery. Works well, but with a shelter, I can’t leave it with the plane. I haven’t really been using it. Can pick up or meet in NorCal or ship. $900 $600 OBO + shipping or pick up. Regards, Russell Katz - N43CA

Oh, nice, I didn't know that trick. So LAX VOR on 123 radial distance of 10 nautical miles? Thanks again! Russell Katz
-
Thank you! That is what I was thinking too. Regards, R.Katz
-
Hi @ZuluZulu, I still haven't had a chance to do this yet, but maybe after my annual this month. What user waypoints do you use for the radials? The closest I see are ETODE LAX FERMY. I know the instructions state "Abeam Sepulveda Pass" and "exit near Vincent Thomas Bridge", but those aren't "fly-over" waypoints it looks to me. Regards, R.Katz

Many thanks for all that you do Don. You have been a great help and inspiration to me and Nathaniel!

What is the useful load of your J?
katzhome replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
My 1977 J is 988 lb UL. Empty weight is like ~1752 lbs. -
No worries! I’m still relatively recent to aviation, so not knowing if I am missing an easy waypoint definition, I always try to ask. Cajon looked like the likely candidate. Thanks again for your input!
-
@FJC Thank you for the additional tips! What waypoint is VPLC? I think that would mean Cajon Pass (VPLCP)?

Hi @N201MKTurbo, that is what I'm hoping. I've read some of the troubleshooting steps in various forums, it is just a matter of getting down to the plane to work on it for a few hours versus getting my time or my son's time flying in. I expect it is the drive transistors for the solenoid or wiring like you said. Luckily I do have a backup control head that should be fully operational, but I don't want to try using it until I've made sure I don't blow the transistors due to a bad solenoid.
-
Thanks @EricJ! Much appreciated! I'm also going to try to get a look, but most of our visits to the plane lately have been to fly. With my (limited) avionics upgrade coming, I want to see if I can get the IIB back operational.
-
I know I'm reviving an old thread here, but seeing if anyone out there has the Roll Servo part number used with the Century IIB autopilot. My logs state "Century IIB, drawing 830123" for installation. I will be seeing if I can recover the solenoid function, but if it isn't the control head (I have a spare), I would have to replace the Servo...the Century manuals have lots of different part numbers. My best estimate is a 1C363-1-183R, which the Cherokee's use, but that is mounted under the seat, not out in the wing. I'll be opening up the panel out there soon to take a look, but if anyone has the number immediately at hand, I would be very appreciative!

Happened to me right after the completion of my pre-buy/annual last year. Me and the instructor found it during the pre-flight. We had thought it was the fitting, but it was actually the line that had ruptured.

Well it looks like we have 2 kids going to AZ schools. Daughter to UofA in Tucson and son Embry-Riddle in Prescott! Hoping to work a practice flight with @donkaye sometime soon to KPRC and need to get some excuses to fly to KTUS. @KLRDMD I will try to look you up whenever we look to be heading down there. We now do have O2, so should be able to fly higher as well. Snapshot of Don's recommended route:
-
And now it is late June and still haven't gone on this trip! Playing with the routes for the Coastal Route as recommended by many of you, here is a shot at that flight plan. Don, of course we could go high as well since we now have an O2 bottle!

Thanks @Skyland, sorry we didn’t make it. Hoping we can make the next one! -

Going to try, but the combination of IFR/MVFR early and gusty winds later is pushing my newbie minimums. hope to be there! -
Glad Shirley is recovering. We had good experience with Allianz as well post-Dorian for a trip to the Abacos. I used to not be an advocate for trip insurance, but these days I am.

Hi @birdofjoy! We are over at Q-3 shelter at KRHV, love to meet you in person as well! I did see the Byron price went up this weekend, looks like KLVK or points south for gas this weekend.
