Hello all, I recently had my 1974 M20C Ranger in for its annual inspection (a new shop, not an MSC, but some experience in make and model), and they noticed some play in the nose gear. I’ve attached a video link for reference. There’s no ground shimmer during taxi or landing, and everything feels stable, but the play caught our attention. I’ve searched through the maintenance manual but couldn’t find any specific tolerance limits regarding nose gear play. https://drive.google.com/file/d/15VBGaubPO-E5mtGMee9vACe65R7zJ1XG/view?usp=sharing Has anyone else encountered this? Is this level of play typical for the M20C, or is it something that needs to be addressed? I appreciate any insights or advice. Thanks in advance for your help! Best, Kurt

The two best upgrades for me have been the GFC500 and the sidewinder tug. I flew many years hard IFR without either, but it's like a hangar; you would not consider not having once you have—the reduced work, safety, and ease of use are transformative and appreciated on every flight. Also, I have the EDM830 EM, and while I value the detailed information for optimizing the engine performance, early ID of problems, and troubleshooting, it would be further down my upgrade list (revisit this rank after actual inflight engine failure). Good luck with your upgrades, and fly safe k

Door Won't Lock After New Factory Seal Installed
FlySafe replied to Van Lanier's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Hi VL, I had a similar experience after installing a new Knots 2U door seal on my C last year. The problem corrected itself after I let it sit with the door latched for three days in the hangar. However, if I leave the door open in the hangar overnight, the problem can reoccur even 9 months after the installation; ask me how I know. I had to cancel a recent trip. On the positive side, no more air or water leaks, one step forward, 2 back . The other positive is that I am not stuck inside without a door handle and a door that won't open. Good Luck k -

10/10/23 Hi everyone, my plan 9 installation of the LHS did not work out, need to clear out items I no longer need. It's still new in the box as received. Is anyone interested? details below. thanks. k Greetings, I purchased the LHS-200-C new from Microkit Solutions in March 2023 for $1,165. The plan was to install it during my fall annual, but I have had to divert from those plans. It’s still in the box with all the paperwork and needs a new home. The warranty doc in the box states it’s not transferable, but I will accept returns for 30 days; 20% discount on the price—free shipping in the USA. Thanks https://landingheight.com/product/landing-height-system-200-c/ kurt

Hi All short-body flyers. Here are some recent savvy flight data from a cohort of 77, M20(A-D) for comparison to your personal numbers. Don't laugh or judge me for my lower power/TAS choices. Best wishes, k 20230305 Trend Analysis Report N7763M.pdf

Sorry @PeteMc, at least they are aware and have a history of addressing issues as they develop in a reasonable time. So hopefully, they will have your patch soon. -
GTN flight plan crossfill to the GNC has arrived
FlySafe posted a topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Hi All, FYI, Gramin recently announced a software update on the GTN and GNC navigators allowing crossfill. Safe flying https://support.garmin.com/en-US/aviation/faq/Sth3XWRoWl0WW52KH6gcp8 https://support.garmin.com/en-US/aviation/faq/5ZqKzpi6Ux4LsCc97VQds8 k -
You are all the best, thank you!

Hi, found an extra part on my post-flight inspection today. Upon opening the left cowl inspection door, found the metal tube shown laying on top of the battery. Another picture shows the hole on top of the dog house from where it came from. I'm embarrassed to say I don't know what the tube is for. On inspection of the parts book, looks like its name is a "blast tube" and there is also one on the right side. Can someone teach me what is its purpose and is it important? Since my #4 cylinder always has the highest temps, seems it might help to just plug the hole and keep flying Thanks in adavance k

Hi Mooney Neighbors. I just removed a working Garmin GTX335, non-gps, ads-b out transponder (P/N 011-003300-00, S/N 3EE000480) from my plane. Unfortunately, the data plate on the 335 was damaged at some point since its install in 2017. As such, my avionics shop cannot take it for resale (certified repair station). Thought I would offer it up here to see if any interest. I have the original log entry for its install and removal. The serial number can also be seen on its power on screen. It has the manual, rack, backplate, new connector kit, and config module (no antenna). Everything was working prior to removal and bench power check was good. Shop cannot issue a yellow tag/form 8130-3 with the damaged data plate, hence reduced sale price. I will accept a return for 30 days if you are not happy. PM me if interested or questions. I expect the insured shipping ~$20-$40 depending on address. Thanks kurt

Just saw on beechtalk, looks like the gfc500 will be fully operational (except for gi275 owners), as soon as you complete the sw update "Hi everyone, I am pleased to report that the team has completed the GFC 500 STC that resolves the issue mentioned at the beginning of this thread. Please find the Service Document Notification here: https://atlaske-content.garmin.com/file ... 052731.pdf For Certified aircraft, the following software has been published with a Service Bulletin with instructions for your Garmin dealer to perform the update. G3X Touch v9.02 G5 v8.02 This Service Bulletin is warranty reimbursable. For GFC 500 installations paired with a GI 275, the STC that incorporates the approved GFC 500 software is still in progress. The STC approving installation is planned to become available by the end of this month. I will update this thread upon availability."

Happy New Year Mooneyspace Members. Anyone happen to have an image of the mysterious 25 gal fuel tabs from a C model they could post? I see them referenced in forums and my owner manual but elusive as a Yeti in my experience. On my 74 C, I usually just tell the line folks to fill to their 2nd index finger joint and round down to 25 gals as verified with my calibrated stick and jpi830 Also sharing happy owner image of panel work in progress replacing the #2 kx155 with the gnc335 and the gtx335 with a 345; think I'm done for awhile. I look forward to seeing someone's fuel tab picture. Take care. k
