If you go to Jeager interiors online you can find the PDF he made about refurbishing plastics. He notes what products to use and how to go about it. Unfortunately my 62 doesn’t have any plastics to redo. It’s all carpet sides with metal window framing. Hope this helps.

For what it’s worth, you were right about the Jeager interiors. I spoke with Bruce yesterday, very nice guy. The pre 64 stuff will not work with his interior system. Apparently the front windows were bigger as well which creates problems with the entire system. Bruce was very very helpful and offered that if I send him some pictures he would be happy to help give me some ideas. It seems as though plane plastics, airtex or something 100% custom will be the path I have to take. I will continue to provide updates as I receive them. Thanks for the help, MS.

Electric step conversion.
jakearey replied to chriscalandro's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Forgive the silly question -my 62 has a hand crank step. This is to switch from the vacuum step system to an electric system; right? Will it work in place of the hand crank system? thanks! JA -
Appreciate all of the help! I’m curious about the vinyl Flooring option. I will look to see if I can find plastic replacement for the wheel well so that I don’t have vinyl flooring with carpet wheel well. The gentleman above mentioned that Jeager interiors are made for 65 or 66 and newer and he doesn’t believe they will fit the round windows in the rear. I’ll have to call them to see what they think. It sounds like I might have to piece together pieces from here and there to get the outcome I am looking for, unless I have someone make custom panels, which seems much more expensive.

A - thanks for your response. As with everything, budget matters but the cost for the carpeting I found online seems reasonable at around 400, from SCS interiors. I also found vinyl flooring options that are pre cut. That seems pretty attractive as it would be very easy to clean. Have you seen the vinyl installed before? You mentioned CB, don’t know what that stands for. I looked up airtex online and the carpeting they offer shows it is for later years. 65+ I believe. What controls are required to be disconnected? Are you referring to the area with the indicators? The trim indicator isn’t accurate. How would one go about fixing that? as you can tell, very new to this process. Thanks! JA

Hey I appreciate your responses. Good to know about the spacial interiors. I guess I will find a different route to go. I will look into the carpeting sets to see if I can find the replacement carpeting. Thanks

Hey gang - looking at redoing the interior panels and carpet. A few questions; 1. The box area behind the J bar is covered in carpet. Other models I see have a hard plastic covering. This is the box area where the trim indicator and flap indicator are located. I am hesitant to remove the carpet for fear of not being able to replace it. Does anyone know if I can buy plastic coverings for it? Plane plastics? It would clean it up a bit. 2. Secondly, the panels on the interior do not seem to be factory, in my opinion. They are pretty flimsy pieces of a plastic board, covered with carpet. I think I will need new plastics as I don’t believe these to be recoverable. I have seen and heard of “upper and lower plastics” but mine seems to be 1 piece. Does anyone know if the plastics for a 62 are different than the 64-67, etc? 3. I love the Jeager spacial panels but this model I have has the retractable step mechanism that’s on the left side panel. Does anyone know if they offer a left panel with a hole cut for the step system? 4. Lastly, the fuel selector on the 62 does not have the strainer in the floor. It has always bothered me that there’s not a bevel on the fuel selector to keep the carpet situated right on top of the fuel selector. It appears as though the pre cut carpet offered does not have a hole already for this circular fuel selector. I am looking for something to kind of clean that up and to secure the carpet around the edge of the selector. I have found new selectors but they all appear to be for later models that have the strainer. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have searched for the answers to these on the site but have not been able to find answers for these specific questions. thanks guys! JA

What kind of visors are those? Think they would fit in a 62C?
-
Steingar - so which armrest did you have installed? The jeager interiors peak my interest but they are indeed twice the cost of the airtex interiors.
-
Looking at redoing the interior of the 62C this winter. It currently does not have an armrest on either side of the cockpit. I have noticed that the other 62’s I have seen do not have one either. Does anyone know if the side panel kits from the various online sources will allow me to add on an armrest with the bolt on side panels? Or possibly I can have one made if I have a local auto shop do the interior? The one I spoke to had concerns about what to anchor it to and thus I figured the Pre manufactured kits online would be my best option. Has anyone ran into this before? Also I have been looking for a new or refurbished fuel selector for the floor board but can only find the ones that are for the later models, not the 62. The ones I find appear to be slightly different than the one currently installed. Thoughts? Thanks! JA

2 blade vs 3 blade on a O-360?
jakearey replied to jakearey's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Thank you guys for the responses! Cody has been a big help in this process and is actually the guy that I’m working with. I’ve been more than pleased with his assistance. I was just looking to hear other opinions but it sounds like his is the only one that matters. thanks for the responses guys! -
Hey all! I’ve seen some talk in various places about 3 blade props not doing that well on O-360 engines. Specifically, I have been told about some vibration. Has anyone else found this to be the case? If you had the choice to put a 3 blade or a 2 blade on your 4 cylinder Mooney, which would you chose? Location will be southern part of the country, Arkansas in particular. Possible flights out west at some point but I will not be frequenting the Rockies every month or anything. Most areas I will be flying in are pretty normal terrain. Thanks for the help! J

Garmin GNS530W for sale 7500.00 28 Volt
jakearey replied to Alan Fox's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Alan - have any adsb transponders available? -
I know this is badly off topic but can we see some more pictures of your bird? That’s paint job looks sweet! Let’s see more of it! For what its worth, my gear doors on a 62 C appear to hang mostly straight down and leaning in toward each other a little bit.

As a residential mortgage lender I do see your logic and like the idea. This.

Thanks for the replies guys! I am into some real estate stuff on the side and like to have extra cash to play with for those projects. Don’t need to finance the plane but considering that option so that I have other opportunities with the funds. I will reach out to AOPA as well as the various institutions listed on your comments. Much appreciated! JA

Hey gang! Still looking into buying the C from the Colonel. Because it’s a C, the price is very reasonable. I have planned to not finance the purchase but right now I am looking into financing a portion of the plane to hold onto some cash for the unknown items that will pop up. I am a finance guy so I do understand most of the pros and cons of getting a loan on the plane. My question is this - are there certain companies that will finance planes built in 1962? My initial search found large companies that won’t finance older than 1970. Also - I know it depends on a few factors, but what are going interest rates for aviation loans? As with most plane buyers I am sure, I am a strong buyer. But I wonder what rates and terms look like on these loans? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If you have the name of a lender that will do 62 models I would love to hear them! -JA

I am a local to SUZ and have a C there in a hanger. Mike Williamson at SUZ has some Mooney time and has helped ferry Mooney planes all over the country. He would be where I would start here locally. Mike helps run the club and is the lead instructor. He isn’t a Mooney expert per say but has a ton of experience and can at least help you get current and get the plane back home safely for additional training. Please feel free to contact me anytime as I live in bryant and would be happy to help anywhere I can. 501-326-2700 Jake

Very cool planes guys! All of the birds look amazing in the air and I like all of the panel mods! Thanks for sharing! I feel that my wish list has grown since Saturday when I made this post! - JA

That is interesting! The C that I have my hands on right now is a 62 as well. Thanks for sharing!
-
Agreed, very nice!
-
Sounds very nice! I’m glad to hear she is still flying and well cared for!
-
Hate to hear that she isn’t flying anymore! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the reminder on that! I’ll fill that out more. GSXR - that is a cool looking bird! The dark paint behind the rear windows looks really good! I bet that adds a few knots! - sure looks like it. That’s the plane I’ve seen you talk about before, right? Do you ever wish you had her back?
