Yes, that's what I meant

Actually, looks like it's right on top of the air filter. I don't see anything obviously disconnected.

Flying today and HI started spinning, attitude indicator rotated, vacuum reads zero. Landed uneventfully, but now for the repair: Is the vacuum pump the most likely item that failed? Could anything else cause this or should I go ahead and order the vacuum pump to expedite the repair? Recommendations on which pump to use? I'm going to take the cowl off and look at what's currently installed, but wondering what kind of options I'll have. No, not ready to go sans pump right now, but recognize that's the best way to go.

Local A&P is not so flexible. Not willing to have it fixed, not willing to use the -501 part available here: https://www.texasairsalvage.com/main_view.php?editid1=207374 Hoping I get lucky with someone on Mooney space

Thanks, I messaged him

The battery in my C model has a leak and completely destroyed the battery box. Looking for a used one if anyone has it or has a lead to find it, please let me know.

Yes, line items were on top of an $1800 flat fee.

Great discussion, appears it is a grey area depending on why he is requiring the ICAs. I get the feeling I'm being squeezed for money from this place, and that's why I ask. There are many ICAs beyond the avionics that are being billed at about a half hour per check. One for alternator, one for brackett air filter, and a few other misc items. He referred me to the avionics shop he is affiliated with who estimated a half hour (at 100/hr) to do the ICA for the GTN, which is only a visual inspection. Also a half hour to "check for compliance" of the GTX transponder AD back in 2005 for a software update. Clearly it doesn't apply because I have documentation that it was installed in 2014. And the fact that he's saying an avionics shop needs to confirm that seems silly, because simply turning on the transponder would reveal that the version makes the AD not applicable. Everyone raves about these Mooney Service Centers being the way to go.. but maybe they aren't all of the same caliber. My annual estimate was nearly $8.5k--with no major engine work needing done. Just high labor rates and times quoted (Half hour to replace O rings?). And is checking for tubular corrosion typically billed separately? $250 charge for something that seems it should be part of the annual inspection rate..

I didn't ask him to perform any kind of inspection on the Avionics. I am part 91. So imagine it should not be mandatory for me? If I follow what you're saying correctly.

My mooney is in the shop for an annual currently. The mechanic has identified several ICAs, instructions for continuing airworthiness, that apply for the Avionics installed--GTN 750 and GTX 330. He has stated that these have to be checked during the annual and he cannot sign off on the plane being airworthy without having his avionics shop confirm these. This isn't something I've heard of before, declaring a plane not airworthy due to avionics issues like this.. Is this accurate?

Good idea. I'll look into this.

It's only a transponder upgrade Garmin for Garmin, should take 1-2 days. But yeah, that's a risk. It's a Mooney service center. Maybe I should delay..

I know this is an impossible question, but here it goes: Purchased a C model last year. Upcoming annual will be first annual under my ownership. I'm scheduled for avionics work a week before annual. I have this ?irrational fear that significant corrosion has been missed on prior annuals and I'm going to invest $8k on avionics a week before annual only to learn that the airframe is worthless. The aircraft has never been in an area high risk for corrosion. It's always been hangared. It's never been out of annual. So I feel like the risk is low, but I read that thread a while back on Mooney space where the guy got screwed over.. is it worth rescheduling my avionics work until after the annual at risk of having to wait a long time, or is my fear truly irrational?

Thank you for all of the recommendations. Will look into this and report back.

Yeah, I imagine wear related. I'll have to look into getting that upper door pull, that might do the trick. I am not aware of my C having an STC, but I do see a latch at the top. Is that what you're referring to or would an STCd upper latch look different?

Door seal was replaced recently and looks normal on my view. Any references on how to learn to adjust the latches?

I posted back in December about a difficult to close cabin door on my C model. I have either addressed the issue to some extent or have improved my technique. However, on a flight over the weekend I was in light precipitation and noticed some water coming in to the cabin. I looked up an saw an opening the the door -- I could see the sky! I landed and re-closed the door, took off, but once I got into the air the same issue happened. I'm wondering if this has been happening all along but I haven't noticed it because I usually don't fly in precip. Also, I can't see the opening after closing it on the ground, so maybe the airflow is pushing it open some? And one other tid-bit: When I close the cabin door from the outside lever it seems to get a better seal. I wonder if it is closing appropriately from the outside but not when I close it from the inside. Any thoughts?

GTN 750 + GTX 345 or GTN 750 + GNX 375?

GTN 750 + GTX 345 or GTN 750 + GNX 375?
BrettKS replied to BrettKS's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Thanks everyone. Yeah, I think I'm going with the GTX345 and eventually will get the Flight Stream 510. -
I have an M20C with a GTN 750 installed linked to a Garmin Mode C transponder. I need to do an ADS-B update and the quoted costs were around $6000 to add the GTX 345 ADS-B in/out transponder and around $9000 if instead of the GTX I were to add the GNX 375 IFR GPS with ADS-B transponder. I guess the GNX setup would offer some GPS/map redundancy, but is it worth the extra $3k?

I'll be moving and may be storing my M20C here. Has anyone here had experience with the A&Ps at the shop here?

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
BrettKS replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Whether its 18 or 40 hours, this AP still offers the same features as its competitors that are twice the cost. I'm still excited and hopeful this gets approval soon.
