  1. Actually, that is not the case. If interested in trading in your existing JPI, or other manufacture's engine monitor and installing our CGR-30P, we can absolutely use the existing probes and harnesses and we'll even build an adapter cable to save quite a bit of labor.
  2. Worth noting, there is very little additional labor/difficulty installing the companion gauge as you will typically have multiple available locations from removing existing instrumentation as the CGRs fit in an existing 3-1/8" hole and are flush mounted. Additionally, all of the probes and transducers connect to the EDC and the EDC's RS232 signal can be split to the CGR- 30P and CGR- 30C. As such, I would guess maybe an extra hour in labor to physically install the gauge and make the power, ground, backlight and RS232 connections.
  3. Not too fun in Oregon.
  4. You are most welcome! Dewey, Randy and the crew know our stuff well and can certainly help you out.
  5. Part of the upgrade package is to build conversion harnesses from the existing monitor's cabling, whether it be E.I, JPI, Insight, etc, to interface with our system. Worth noting, the Basic version of the CGR-30P does not typically include manifold pressure, however, I'd be happy to go to bat for you and see if there is something custom we could do for you.
  6. If you are at all interested in upgrading from the EDM-711 to our CGR-30P, we have an upgrade path available that will save quite a bit of money and labor as the upgrade utilizes the existing CHT/EGT probes and cables. If you are not interested in replacing existing gauges, I would suggest our CGR-30P Basic with includes RPM, EGT, CHT (can be primary), fuel flow, OAT and volts. Please PM me for details or send me an e-mail at support@buy-ei.com. We may be able to offer additional discounts as we are looking for willing aircraft owners to assist in the launch of these new upgrade packages.
  7. Thank you, carusoam!
  8. I see where you would find that confusing and I appreciate you bringing that to my attention. I will forward it to management for their evaluation. Just to reiterate, you do NOT need to be a certified mechanic or FAA certified repair shop to use the 00200 password. That password is always included with all of our certified systems.
  9. I don't believe there is an aircraft manufactured with a required primary EGT gauge. TIT, sure. Some manufactures have mistakenly labeled a TIT probe EGT, but it's not monitoring a single cylinder's temp, it's monitoring the temp at the collector, just before the turbo. There are far too many factors that can affect absolute EGT temperatures. Type of probe, thickness of the material used and the installed distance from the cylinder to name a few. As such, absolute temperature is not nearly as important as the temp relative to peak.
  10. If you could point to a specific page in the installation instructions, I will be happy to take a look at it.
  11. You do not need to be a certified mechanic or FAA approved shop to qualify for the maintenance password or level 2 password. The standard 00200 password (as each certified system leaves our facility) will allow the user to calibrate horsepower, calibrate fuel tanks, enter tach and engine time, configure COM ports (GPS interface) and adjust the brightness of the display. Deeper levels of programming, such as primary function redlines and screen locations are protected by a one-time use, level 2 password which must be generated at our facility. We can issue this password to anybody having POH justification or an STC supplement for the requested changes. We typically will assist over the phone to ensure that changes are made correctly. The FAA does mandate that primary functions monitored on our system that are replacing analog instrumentation match the existing instrument's markings or POH markings/limitations.
  12. Thank you very much for the support!
  13. Could you please post a link to our site where JPI was bashed? To my knowledge, we have never done that. Quite the opposite if you review previous advertising from our competitors. In regard to reliability, I suggest you read the posts from your peers and decide for yourself. If you visit any number of forums, I think you will find that our customer service is second to none. As an example, we are here on this forum, happy to answer any questions on our products, even assisting in troubleshooting our competitor's products.
  14. OEMs such as Air Tractor, Thrush, Aviat, Cub Crafters, Extra and Pratt & Whitney use our CGR-30P and MVP-50P/MVP-50T in their certified aircraft. Additionally, companies known for quality retrofits such as Rocket Engineering, Cascade Aircraft Conversions, Turbine Conversions, Wipaire and more install many of our engine monitors. Lastly, aerobatic/race pilots such as Sean Tucker, Patty Wagstaff and Matt Hall trust the engine monitoring to us. So much so, Matt has done quite a few testimonial videos for us over the past couple of weeks. I understand that you would be apprehensive to take me at my word as I am an employed with E.I., but Matt sure likes our MVP in his Edge 540. If our gear can stand up to the rigors of the current 3rd place Red Bull Air Race pilot's flying and touring, I think that certainly says something for our reliability and dependability.
  15. That's quite a dramatic update and very nicely done!
  16. Fantastic pic! I will forward it to our marketing department. Thank you very much!
  17. Checking in. Thank you very much to all of you who have shared their pictures! Anybody else care to share pics of their panel? Any before and after pics? High res in flight pics?
  18. I'm here, I'm here! But...I cannot offer any advice as to where the factory shunt is installed unfortunately.
  19. Or if someone is proud of their panel update and wanted to share before and after pics, that would be fantastic!
  20. We're currently offering a $1000.00 rebate on the combo package. If you'd like to send me before pics and in-flight pics, I'll forward them to our marketing department and be in touch. Thank you!
  21. Very glad to read you found a system that works well for you. However, to be clear on pricing as this is a public forum and I don't want anyone viewing this to be misinformed, I have attached a screen shot from Aircraft Spruce. JPI offers an instant rebate and ours is a mail-in rebate (currently $1000.00). As such, the price difference is only $358.00. Additionally, we include fuel pressure ($280.00 additional for the JPI, $480 additional for turbo charged aircraft) and carb temp ($95.00 additional). Additional primary functions can be included at not additional cost, as well. Clearly, the systems are very comparable and opinions vary based on form factor.
  22. Thank you for your kind words. We certainly enjoy what we do and appreciate all the feedback we receive. We feel the CGR-30COMBO does compete very well. Especially when you consider the additional functions included with the Combo package. If you compare current pricing, including rebates, the difference is closer to $400.00. While the CGR is a bit more expensive, we offer far more functions. Having just spent almost $300 on a new altitude encoder, $400.00 for a bunch of primary gauges doesn't seem so bad. It's all about perspective, and we each have our own. When you installed the EDM900, did you not remove most of your existing instrumentation? If not, was it by choice? I'm curious why you believe you would not have the space to install two 3-1/8" gauges when those holes are typically available in the panel. Thank you for sharing.
  23. Great pics and thank you for sharing! Fuel level is certified primary on the CGR-30P, CGR-30C and MVP-50P. Years ago, we developed our FL-1/FL-2 legacy gauges and due to liability at that time, it was decided to not seek certification do to the amount of accidents caused by fuel starvation. It's not to say that it is due to the accuracy of our instruments, it was all about avoiding litigation. We may revisit certifying those at a later date, or replace them with a newer design.
  24. The CGR-30COMBO package has been very popular as most aircraft owners are electing to remove the existing tach and manifold pressure gauges, among others. Removing those two gauges opens up the required 3-1/8" holes and the CGR's are flush mounted and do not overlap the panel. You can replace up to 15 primary instruments in two 3-1/8" instruments, including fuel level at no additional charge, choose 6 discreet annunciators (gear position, fuel pump status, pitot heat status, landing light status, etc) and take advantage of the customizable digital checklists. There really is a lot to like about the CGR-30COMBO and I'm sorry to read that you don't feel that it will work well for you.
  25. And thank you again!
