  1. I think that because the 210 will give him AHRS and WAAS gps from the panel mount, he only needs the weather and traffic, which the Scout can do. Trade down from the Stratus to the Scout.
  2. I thought the 210 didn't work with the new GTNs. Does it work for you because you have the G500? Edit: I was wrong. I guess you can use the 210 or the 510 with the GTN series.
  3. Pretty much. But the owner has the option to fix things too if they are fixable.
  4. Ah, yes. Thank you. The M20C I'm trying to buy has a G5 mounted off to the side with the old panel layout still in place. It also has a GTN650. I'm told the wing leveler still works well and I think that requires the vacuum system. However, when the GFC500 comes out I can see adding a second G5, cleaning up the layout, and upgrading to the autopilot. Then the vacuum can be pulled out and maybe save a bit of weight.
  5. Then installing a G5 should let you ditch the vacuum system, correct? Unless you need it for something else like an existing autopilot.
  6. Is a back up AI required for IFR?
  7. Just so I understand, do you have to have a backup AI if you have a G5?
  8. My purchase agreement is written so that I, the buyer, pay for the pre-buy, but that if the planes fails and I back out of the deal, the owner pays the shop fees. But I also am putting a $5,000 deposit in escrow that I only get back if the plane fails the pre-buy. Both of us have skin in the game, but both are also protected.
  9. Thanks, I think this is what I was trying to remember.
  10. The GTX 345 with WAAS I think is only WAAS for the ADSB and doesn't give you the improved approach capability. Because of that I would stick with making the WAAS upgrade built into your main GPS/Comm navigator unit. Otherwise, I do like the GTX345, but I agree that it isn't any more capable than a 330ES or a KT74 paired with a Stratus/Stratux. Because of the G5 and your plan for a second for the autopilot, I would stick with Garmin on the WAAS GPS. I like the IFD, and I'm willing to bet it will legally be able to work with the G5 in the future, but there is no guarantee or predictable timeline. As far as which one? Well, I say go for the cheapest, probably the 430W, and get the Flight Stream 210. It sounds like you use an iPad as well. That is your big moving map and your easy way to run the 430W flight plan and routes.
  11. I'm in the process of buying a '64 M20C with some very nice equipment. It has a KT 74 for ADSB Out already. The current owner uses a Stratus 2S for his ADSB In. I like to tinker a bit so I decided to order the parts to put my own Stratux together. I know you have to do something to marry up your out and in so you'll receive everything you should, but I'm fuzzy on the details. How do you set up the Stratux and/or ForeFlight properly for this?
  12. It was on my short list. I ended up pursuing @jetpilot12's C, but I was too late for that. I was goin to call on this again when I found another C that I am planning to get.
  13. I am in the market for a plane as well. If I were getting a basic cockpit, my first upgrade would be an engine monitor if it didn't have one already.
  14. Thanks for the write up and the pictures!
  15. One of the planes for sale I contacted just a week ago straight up said "this is a true barn find!" And I said, "I'm not interested in a plane that has been sitting for over five years with no flight time."
  16. How would you handle it if something was found on pre-buy related to airworthiness or even just defective, so not as advertised? Would you not pay to fix it? Would you take less for the plane given the new information the buyer now has?
  17. Why selling after 2 years? How many hours has it flown in the last two years? What is the useful load? How are the cylinder compressions?
  18. Luckily I'm in no rush so I will take my time looking for the right plane. I would rather wait for the right one then make a rash decision. Of course @jetpilot12 M20C is calling to me ... It has pretty much everything I want.
  19. Yes, I found the thread on the PPI checklist. I also plan on getting it done at a Mooney Service Center with plans to turn the pre-buy into an annual per other recommends I have found on this site. I have a spreadsheet to keep track of info on each plane I am looking at to determine if I will contact them or not. Then after more info I will decide if I am going to pursue or not.
  20. The only problem with this is then you need a significant chunk of money laying around just in case ...
  21. I appreciate the thoughts. By the way, what does AMU mean?
  22. I am starting to gather information and advice about buying my first plane. I am looking at M20 E and F primarily, but will probably consider a C as well. I have read a ton here and on other sites, but I'm still learning Something I am noticing about many planes for sale is that they either have low hours since last overhaul, but haven't been flown at all in recent years or they have 1500-1600 since last overhaul and get flown regularly. I think I would rather avoid a plane that has been sitting for fear of it needing work sooner despite the low hours. For the ones with higher time engines and recent use, how likely are they to make it past TBO? I know with a good digital engine analyzer you can keep a good eye on things to catch issues before they cause real harm. Thanks
  23. That would be great, thanks. I also was just told about the Mooney Summit in Panama City in September as well.
  24. Hi folks. I'm new here and am planning to start searching for a Mooney this winter. I'm primarily looking at C/E/F models. Is there anyone nearby the Pensacola area and willing to let me check out your plane so I can gauge the size difference between the short and long bodies?
  25. I was thinking the same thing, but I still have an old Bad Elf that does GPS. This might be a good combo with the Bad Elf.
