Get to pick up my new F model tomorrow!...sort of
Stephen replied to Stephen's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
On my flight home, It really had a very strong desire to roll to the left. I am looking to find someone with the right board jigs to get the think properly rigged, because that was no fun. I had to climb up through 7500' of solid cloud to get on top and head back to KROG and that roll tendency is not welcome, particularly in IMC. -
Congrats Stephen, beauty!!

Update. Got to see the mooney today. Sat in the cockpit and am reviewing some off the manuals that I didn't have access to. Here are some picks of the plane. Noticed that ailerons are significantly out of match when yokes are neutral....so I think she is in need of a rigging: when the right aileron is aligned with the flap/wingtip (IMG_2137) the left one is significantly down (IMG_2139). I do have a few instruments that I think I would like to clear out. Thinking about culling ADF head/controller and definitely the old IFR GPS (adjacent to the FF/MP gage). Wondering what I want the dedicated press alt gauge for...but that is may More to come! Best, Stephen -

Yeah, same situation I am in . Have some retract time but did it with so many different CFI's (I used to travel a quite a bit for work and would often pick up some dual from whatever local FBO was available in the evenings) that I never was with one long enough (flying complex) to get the endorsement. My CFI Greg is going to address that for me Saturday while flying the 5 hours off so (weather permitting) I can fly home from KBHM to KROG Saturday afternoon. -

I agree. First mod; first priority. -

Yeah, I'm trying to resist the temptation. I do think I'm going to put the shoulder belts in though...not shiny but probably my first mod. -

Hopefully that A&P ticket I got waaaaay back in 1988 at "tumbleweed tech" in AZ will help a bit with some of the costs. -

Marauder I just had a big head thrown back belly laugh at your comment too funny...too true. Actually, I have calculated and my plane should pay for itself in entirety in 7-8 months. (that is the theory anyway). Lets me keep my job in AR while living in northern MO. -
Hi Guys, I'm sitting at home packing up for a commercial flight from KXNA to KBHM tomorrow morning. My just purchased Mooney (my first) bought and ready to go, but my flight instructor just called and said he got called on a flight to TX tomorrow and we can't start flying off my 5 hours of requisite dual time until Saturday....bummer I guess that I will have most all day to sit in it and read manuals. Not flying, but better that work I suppose. Appreciate all your support and info. I'll check in tomorrow and send some pics when I get to Birmingham AL. Stephen

I have a non ratcheting one that takes bits and has a hex on the shank. Mainly done with fixed bit screwdrivers like Yetti's above that have the hex profiling at the base of the shank.
-
*If you use a brand new bit so it doesn't slip* it can be a lifesaver to get serious torque on a stubborn / corroded screw. Mainly used for loosening rather than tightening. Even a square shank screwdriver can be helped out by a small open end wrench to break loose a touch screw.

Hi Yetti, Great tools. This is my single favorite SnapOn tool for aviation. Beautifully strong fine ratchet. Think I purchased in 1990...still going strong on the 2nd ratchet mechanism:

Hi Pete, welcome. Great pics; looks like a great flight

Hooowahhh! I think I set middle seat between a couple of those on AA. Bad news crowded, good news no sharp corners.

Actually I believe Lurch was exactly 6'9" as well, nowhere near 7'4" . That is NBA territory.

If you want to seem some amazing graphics manipulation skills, check out the FAQ thread.

No worries, needed one and thought it could have a Mooney watermark on it. Made it in excel then went to word to blend in the mooney logo graphic watermark, screens shotted to a composite graphic and back into word to be able to resize as needed and print multiple copies. If you give my your #'s I can type it in and make a custom one for your tested deviation if anyone wants one. (Low end of the value spectrum on contribution, compared to the great advice you guys have given on the prebuy and other threads, but it is a starting point).

MOONEYCOMPASSCARD.docx Hi guys, I made a Mooney branded compass card that *I think* is the right size for the normal compass card holder (1 x 1.75). It is a word doc and you can click on the images and size up down as/if necessary. Best, Stephen

Hi Wakeup, I grew up with my dad flying a Grumman Tiger, a Cherokee 235 and finally a PA326-300. The 6 had club seating and would haul a LOT of people/fuel/baggage. Not exactly a speed demon but got us to from Bisbee, AZ to pretty deep in Mexico (MMZO Colima) and numerous other trips around the US. It was my favorite to fly right seat in. Very few problems with it. I think he got hard up for money due to a realestate deal and sold it in the early 90's for $25K. I had a cat that they didn't tell me, but realistically I was too young in the marriage/career to have afforded the ops cost. Later on (2005) I bought a 73 Cherokee 235, so I have had a taste of the buy high/annual/upgrade/sell low cycle.

Agreed!

Yes, I think it would be helpful as owners to insist on getting specific inspection checklist supplied and annotated in the logs, rather than "complied with annual inspection per <reference manual>. Even though that ties things to the reference manual (mine says "IAW Maintenance Manual") I would much rather burn log space and/or attach specific scope of performed inspection/lubrication so owners can better understand what was done. It is a preference thing, but I think it would be helpful. After I sent the inspection hitlist I put together for the IA doing the prebuy it will cost 2K to do everything with a fine toothed comb including the SB M20-208B, but will be done.

Amen Antares, I just emailed that thread to my pre-buy inspector. Great call.
