  1. I sent this guy my key code he sent me 2 spares that work great. Original key was worn. Could have gone to Lowe’s but didn’t want a duplicate of a worn key.
  2. Thanks MSers this is what I have. But please if you have anything that is more detailed please let me know. From Mooney website https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hubfs/4147179/TECHNICAL%20PUBLICATIONS%20DOCUMENTS/100_Hour_2018.pdf
  3. I was watching a FAA wings program about how to avoid gear up landing‘s and gear collapses. It was presented by and for Bonanza pilots however a lot of the content was specific to all electric gear. So, these Bonanza guys have an extensive check list for the gear maintenance at annual. I don’t have any relationships with a MSC if anyone does and could get us a copy or has one for a J, it would be greatly appreciated. I understand that some if not all should be accomplished by an experienced Mooney A&P or IA and the electric gear on my J requires 1 special tool. Mooney take away from the program? If you have an a voltage issue, (anything but full voltage) there may not be enough juice to fully extend nose gear into position. It was advised after extending gear electrically, also do so manually also this greatly reduces chance nose wheel collapse.
  4. Huge thanks to MS ers for the help especially StevenL757 who flew in to personally help me. Didn’t sync but will do at next annual. AC/Nav brackets holes did not line up with existing nut plates so needed a little fab work to complete. Used existing power and ground from old power supplies which were all removed. Saved about 6lbs but need a more accurate scale for exact #. Unbelievable difference in brightness intensity.
  5. Don't forget the money savings. You save about 15-25 cents a every flight.
  6. I believe you are correct. Section 8 my POH lists the same. I know for a fact I was told once per month my at least 2 Mooney owners, and I follow that procedure. But clearly common sense plays a role, if you are refueling at a random field or getting unbranded fuel, well then you must sump.
  7. Well said!
  8. After reading a few NTSB reports about contaminated fuel and the consequences to the pilots, I could never fathom WHY any pilot, especially a MSer wouldn't sump. Don't just dump the 100LL on the ground, use it as a cleaner. Not on your bird of course!
  9. Right as I said gascolator 1 per month per manual. Tanks every preflight. Notice comma.
  10. I did find water in my tank once. Took 7 cups until I saw blue. Tanks every preflight, gascolator 1 per month per manual. Nice piece of mind.
  11. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/604257 Garmin lists it at 7k. Fly away with all the add on's is 14k.
  12. Garmin said it expects to expand the list of approved aircraft models, with the Piper PA-28 series slated for the first quarter of 2018, and the Beechcraft 35S/35V anticipated in the second quarter of 2018. Additional models are anticipated for the STC list. To suggest certification for other aircraft types, contact Garmin’s sales department and provide specific aircraft make and model information. aviation.sales@garmin.com 07/16/2018 Update: Garmin is supposedly making an announcement tomorrow. It's expected that they will announce the new list of approved models for the GFC500
  13. Thanks for the replies gents, very much appreciated. LPS 2 I have in hanger, so will go with that.
  14. Russell at MMK Meridan completely restores Mooney's he was working on a J when I met him. (sorry don't have his number, BUT he's in the only hanger there) I had to divert there in my trainer, (not my J) lost oil pressure at night, wound up being failed seam in the oil cooler took Russell about 1 minute to find problem. AirMods is a MSC so couldn't go wrong there either.
  15. Jerry says that Heim Bearing should be lubed with Tri-Flo in the January 2018 MAPA Log. I am trying to figure out which lube is recommended for Flap and Aileron hinges. XPS? I checked the service manual an found no guidance. 1981 M20J Thanks in advance for the replies.
  16. 3 partners bought it. It's in my hanger at HWV. They fly in on a beautiful float plane, then go have fun in their new toy.
  17. Thanks for the responses. I also sent an email out to Don Maxwell, hopefully he will respond. If so, I will post his answer. PPI done by Pete A&P Aircraft from Islip. For last 10 years was maintained by Steve Mott from Islip.
  18. I am working on a pre purchase inspection. Only 1 issue came up. I have attached 2 pictures of the difference in the clearance between the castle nut and the strut. Does anyone know if this is within tolerance or seen or experienced this issue. The pictures are attached.
