  1. Good evening, Has anyone ever seen this, on an F model Mooney. I have been having an issue with my battery master switch not turning off after flight or turning itself on when the plane is in the hangar. After a new switch, two new master solenoids. A not so great mechanic, I finally came across this culprit with an A&P friend. A relay that is nowhere on my electrical diagram and is connected to the battery and the switch and seems to be acting like a relay in line with the battery master relay. On the diagram there is one wire running from the switch to battery master relay but in my mooney it appears this wire runs to this relay first. And then to the switch. Everyone is saying a bad ground or a loose wire but this relay may very well be the issue. any help is greatly appreciated as I don’t think this is standard. for reference we found this relay by the circuit breakers on the pilot side. The plane has some avionics upgrades, EDM830, Aspens, etc...
  2. Thank you, this is useful info, I also have a different flap switch than other F models. Although thanks to spectre 6573 I was able to find the wiring diagram.
  3. Thank you so much!!! This is a lifesaver.
  4. Thank you, will see what I can find but it’s nothing obvious as I have had multiple A&P’s look at it and we replace the positive wire from master switch to solenoid.
  5. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Mooney F model built in 1975... I have 1974 but can’t find it for my serial range. My battery master is turning itself on or not turning itself off and we have replaced switch, solenoid (twice), and ground wire running from solenoid to master switch and the issue is still happening. I need to know if there is something else in the system that could be “grounding” itself on. Maybe somehow in the avionics bar and it’s feeding back to the battery master switch or is there something else we are missing. I am now at 22+ hours of A&P time and we still can’t figure it out. You can imagine that...! Any help very greatly appreciated. Don Maxwell was saying ground wire to solenoid so that’s why we replaced that but no dice...
  6. I am having an issue where my battery master switch is somehow grounding, and turning on/not turning off. It’s a 1975 and we replaced the switch, the solenoid now twice, and the small ground wire from solenoid to master and the issue is back.... could it somehow be grounding out through the avionics bus or something along those lines??!!!
  7. Yes, change of plans. Found a mint M20F that is practically a 201. It is currently at Air Mods under going some post pre purchase squawk clearing. Twin Aspen, ADS-B compliant, etc...
  8. Less than 500 hours TT or engine time? Would depend on price, damage, history, corrosion. Air Mods is a great shop so at least in that regard it was fixed well.
  9. Jim, Fantastic. Total is the shop which currently maintains the airplane. They seem to have done a lot of good work on it in recent years and current owner has kept it in good condition. I just want my pre purchase to be done by someone who is not maintaining the airplane currently. Charles Tari-Head
  10. Happy Sunday, I am looking at purchasing a J model Mooney in Hartford, CT and need some recommendations for a shop to do a pre purchase on the plane. I have heard of Reliant Air in Danbury but that is about it, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Charles
  11. Bob, Thank you for the insight! I have been seeing a wide range of useful loads and while my mission is mostly two people and bags I would prefer to have around 900 or more on the useful loads. (harder to find) I am finding that the good ones that come on the market are sold almost instantly and then there are some which are less desirable or higher priced because their owners are very attached and do not want to sell them! Thanks for your expertise, Charles
  12. Good afternoon, I am currently looking for an M20J and would like some suggestions in relation to more Mooney specific (J model specific items), things to watch out for, etc... I do not have much experience with the Mooneys and therefore some extra coaching would be appreciated before purchasing one. I have debated V Tails, Comanches, etc but the Mooney and the M20Js efficiency is hard to beat. There is an airplane in NJ which has been in Air Mods hands that I am looking into but it has had some damage 10+ years ago which required replacing the wing. (installed a K model wing by Air Mods) In addition are there any CFI's in the New Smyrna Beach/Orlando area that someone would recommend to do some Mooney transition training as I do not have more than a handful of Mooney hours. Any help is greatly appreciated, Charles Port Orange, FL 32128
