  1. I know it looks like that but it’s not. Just had a new prop control installed and they didn’t leave space. Good observation though.
  2. Also- not to get hung up in the details but you’re over west Florida at 13k, in December when OAT is 2* C. I was over central Texas in July at 8k where OAT was 20* C, headed west. There’s kind of a big difference in factors! I typically get howling winds from west to east in the winter and very cool engine operating parameters. But still nice performance for 8 gph nonetheless.
  3. I was actually at 2500 also, I’ve got the original tach on the right side of the panel (outside of the photo), where are you noticing max rpms? btw nice cht spread, my #1 is hottest with about 50 degrees difference over my #3; seems I need to dial in my fuel injectors to get equivalent TAS for 8 gph- now that’s efficient!!
  4. Shameless plug for the early J model. Has to be the best bang for the buck in general aviation right now. It was posts like this that got me fired up to eventually pull the trigger on my own. This thing will grab any tailwind available and sip on the fuel while doing so. While today wasn’t the fastest ground speed I’ve ever experienced in my J, it was the fastest west bound flight I’ve had out of Houston. To everyone one looking for a good plane go buy up those M20Js for $115K on TAP/controller! What other plane give this kind of performance for such a low fuel burn and low acquisition cost?!
  5. Who attended MooneyMax? What’s the recent word from Jonny?
  6. Does the quick connect rotate along with the locknut? Don Maxwell had mine adjusted so that I’d have 1” open when “closed” but somehow they’ve been adjusted back to fully closed after this annual. CHTs are too hot during the summer and I’d like to adjust them back to 1” open. Seems easy enough to adjust I just haven’t tinkered with it yet personally.
  7. Thanks and sorry for the novice question, where is the oil pan/what does it look like on the J?
  8. How much do you figure are the overhauls for the Missile?
  9. Do you mean oil return line or is a drain tube something different?
  10. Where is the oil pan? And what do y’all clean the engine with? Hunting a leak in my 1980J, looks like some leaking between case half - or I don’t know what you call it. Drips only in certain places, clean every where else.
  11. SEP - Stephenville, TX short walk to Hard 8 bbq, fantastic Brisket.
  12. I’m assuming this was resolved? I just got my bird back from annual with the battery replaced and now my electric precise flight sb don’t work. Maybe they forgot to connect something with the new battery?
  13. Patched with what, duct tape?
  14. Patched with what, duct tape?
  15. Did you find them after decowling and just looking or did your crawl into the foot wells with a flashlight? I think I need to do the same thing.
  16. Can you elaborate on sealing everything you could? Where did you deal and with what did you seal?
  17. What 6 seater are you considering? GLWS.
  18. +1 for the plane you know. I’m a 2.5 year J owner and while it would be nice to step up into something incrementally faster, I have the skeletons worked out of mine now. Most non-owners don’t think about the intangible cost of selling the bird you know and have worked out for a faster bird with unknown potential issues! But the idea of going faster is always nice to think about!
  19. How about this try? scan0025.pdf
  20. Couldn’t decide which post to paste this to but this article is awesome - on the CAFE M20E. Step by step notes from Brian Seeley. Found this jewel in the downloads section from 2015. I’ll be looking to see what I can imitate. Thought it would be helpful for others too!
  21. This is an interesting file, are the turbo numbers = or great than 75% power? The graph seems to indicate the K rocket is faster than acclaim and bravo until beyond 19,000’. Also the K rocket has a true airspeed of ~203 ktas at 9,000’ - is this correct?
  22. I thought you were commenting on making an offer on two different K models A few posts ago. If your range is between C,E and Ks a J fits in that range. But if you’re just starting out, I’d agree on the C/E - those are great planes to start out on and learn how to manage expenses.
  23. https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20J+201&listing_id=2413028&s-type=aircraft not trying to bash the older than J models, but having flown/rented a C and F before buying my J. It was worth paying just a little more to get into the J. I bought my 1980 J right before prices got crazy in 2020. They have great autopilots, all you need in this one to be functionally modern ifr is a gnc-375 for 5k and you’re off to the races. There are a few well priced J’s on trade a plane. I made an offer on mine about 15% under list price and we negotiated up some. Price came back down some when the test flight showed the GNS-480 actually didn’t work as advertised. Every seller is different but negotiating is never a bad tactic. The worst they can say is no and you go on to the next one. this one above looks fine to me.
  24. Did you see an additional inch switching to the Donaldson?
  25. Do you observe any performance difference?
