  1. I really don't care for the Goodyear product. Cars either. Most owners complain about them being out of balance and stiff (hard) not to mention the excessive cost. You can do just fine on ovations with Condors or other tires. Have not seen one tire wear more than another. With the big mooneys (ovations/Acclaims) the biggest problem is the peddle configuration where the toe brake leans back toward the pilot. this causes the pilot to ride the brakes or skip the tires. I change more from skips and flat spots on the big guys. Js and smaller are a different story. I always used Air specialty and Condors on my J for 17years and never had a problem. Great tires for the money. Used to buy exclusively from Desser, but Chinese bought them and they have a deal with Spruce so you get them cheaper there.
  2. a super fast Cherokee. Really ? Did he mean a Commanche ? A Cherokee is like flying a bathtub with wings compared to the 201. Just try a simple aileron roll. the mooney roll rate and agility is no match for a Cherokee. Pipers. Please ..........
  3. after you have made a couple thousand approaches, one is as good as the other. I don't think its worth debating. Eventually, the ILS system will go the way of the NDB and VOR. That said, I still like the ol ILS in case Skynet takes over and blows up all our satellites and terminators show up.
  4. not sure if you were looking for deice for ramp or plane. we always used a 50-50 mix of cheap antifreeze in a garden sprayer for all the rental planes years back. cheap and easy and washes off after a few snow-melt cycles. Although hangar works well. Moving to Florida works best for both ramp and plane.
  5. shuttle valve not installed on single sets of brakes. only some dual brake setups. did you get it sorted out or are you still having issues ?
  6. Adam I am a Mooney instructor/ferry pilot and Mechanic up in Cincinnati, ohio area. I speak Mooney fluently, having owned a 201 for 18 yrs. flown and wrenched on all models . I think I would be able to help you out. 58, semi retired and single so I could fit your requirements. Also familiar with Virgin Islands as I have a friend who owns a charter bus down there. If you are interested in discussing, feel free to contact me at phone/email below. Best Regards, Jeff Schnabel CFII, MEI,ATP, A&P 513-484-0604 schnabel79@gmail.com
  7. always back bleed and pump them up from bleed screw on calipers. let gravity do the work of eliminating air bubbles. see maint manual. if dual brakes, you have to depress each set of peddles to move the shuttle valve into proper position to back bleed. see maint manual. if caliper leaking push puck out and put new o-ring in before reinstalling I always look at bore and use a light scotch bright pad. they wont leak again for a long long time. cleaning bore is essential or it will leak again.
  8. fyi regarding the microswitches. in the early J models, they are a Honeywell switch. You can buy them from Mooney for 60-80 bucks but you can find the exact same switch no. if you look online for 6 bucks. I use a forklift parts outlet site as my go to for those switches.
  9. glad to see this problem has been identified. G5 I installed in my Husky tail dragger has about 10 hours on it and now leaning 8 degrees. all other functions working perfectly. initially starts correct on ground. after a few minutes in air, it starts to lean. Have to udate to the 2.6. hope it not just a band aid. still disappointed in Garmin. Judging by the delay in shipping by 3 months, I am guessing they put this in production before it was ready.
