  1. Thanks thats great. The recurrent suggestion is to get an engine monitor. I've read through the GAMI website. As one of the principles Engineers there stated. I really have four single cylinder engines at this point. I monitor just one of those engines. So yes it is a given that all four need a monitor. But in the short term is it not logical to have better tuned injectors? At this point I'm flying blind as far as fuel flow goes to each cylinder so better tolerances with injectors becomes even MORE critical with only one cylinder monitored.
  2. Thanks for the advice. That's really good and detailed information. Unfortunately it doesn't really answer my question, or perhaps it does but I'm not hearing it. Let me restate my question; Is it not logical to put the GAMI injectors in as they have higher manufactured tolerances? They have to be better than the early injectors manufactured back in 1964! In fact I might argue that considering that currently I am only monitoring one cylinder is not even more important? At the very least it should narrow the gap between the cylinders? I agree with Oldguy's post. I would ideally go the whole route but in the meantime - at least put in injectors that are known to be tuned. Again, am I thinking about this correctly? Or am I throwing money at something blindly? Very much appreciate the replies....
  3. Have a 64 M20E and I am considering the purchase of GAMI injectors. Any and all advice appreciated. I should mention that my EGT/CHT is only on one cylinder. However it seems to me that replacing really early type injectors has to be the right move. Even if I can't see every cylinder temp. Shirley the spread should be less. Am I thinking straight on this?

  5. I had this issue last year in my M20E. Actually it was the occasional passenger that alerted me as my sense of smell is really poor. At Annual we discovered the gasket on the gasolator was completely shot. It's replaced now. Consider myself lucky. It signs of gas leaks will be investigated ASAP from now on!
  6. This is an interesting topic for me because my 64 E is also difficult to start at times. I haven't read all the posts here yet but will. I have jumped ahead to comment because earlier on someone questioned if the gascolator leaked (Raptor). Interesting because my annual just revealed that my gascolator indeed was leaking like crazy. I have yet to fire the old girl up but I'm hoping thats it! This thread is also questioning the SOS. Sees logical to me.
  7. I would like to fly Kelowna, B.C. to Fallbrook, CA. Kelowna is located in the centre of the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. I would clear customs just over the border North of Omak, Washington. Ideally I'd like to fly a route away from large centers with congested airspace. The next challenge is getting into Fallbrook which is just south east of Camp Pendleton. Are there experience pilots out there whom have flown these destinations?

  10. Thanks Carusoam, I noticed that, I have a E not C. I don't know why it says that? F would be a good step but not a huge change in speed. I looked at the Bravo after the posts. Nice! For my current needs the E is fine. I fly to work once a month. Two hours in the seat each way. That's perfect.

  12. I am finally really getting into the 64 M20E I bought over a year ago. So many factors that can get in the way of getting up to speed on new type. Mostly weather and availability of instructor. Here in British Columbia (and parts South I hear) it has been a hellish summer for fires. The smoke has been a really big problem. Nonetheless I am finally getting some time in my machine and gaining confidence quickly. So here's dilemma; I already want to go faster. So what's the next logical, or should I say illogical Mooney to covet? Best speed for the buck?
  13. Welcome Matt. Gosh, your ownership mirrors mine in that I am new to owning a 64 M20E and have also transitioned from a C150. What a big step up! Being in Western Canada the weather has been a complete gong show over the last year. I finally got to fly my bird from Kelowna to Prince George last Sunday. Flight time 1:57 wheels up and down. A far cry from the 3.5 hours in a C150 (nonetheless I loved the very simple airplane). The gentlemen I bought FPXG from did some panel upgrades. I must remember to send you a photo.

  15. There's an easy to make fuel valve extension handle. Made from common plumbing hardware. This is another device made by my AME. My old M20E is a P-I-A (pain in the ass) to change tanks during flight. This handy device makes it as easy a pie. Just thought I'd share this.
  16. Another cool little tool made by my AME; a simple tool to change tanks while in flight. My M20E is a PIA (pain in the ass) when switching tanks. In fact, not all that safe. This is made from common plumbing hardware. As you can see the reducer has been notched to straddle the valve. Works like a charm.
  17. Just wanted to announce that the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association will be our Convention and Tradeshow in Kelowna, B.C. this June 23-24. This is my hometown now and as a new Mooney owner I'd love to see a whole flock of Mooney's show up. It should be a great time. A first for me. Kelowna is semi arid and I situated relatively close to the Excited States border. It's on a 100 mile lake and is known as the Napa Valley of the North by some. It is a great destination to consider.
  18. Milotron: I did much of my training in Victoria. Please plan to attend COPA in Kelowna this summer. I still have property on Pender Island. Shame they closed the strip. It was on of the factors when buying there. Not that our Mooney's are the ideal aircraft for that mission!
  19. Wow, interesting talk generated over a simple rain cap. I think I will continue to use this little gizmo and use the original O-ring. The issue to me is to prevent water from getting in there in the first place. Additionally, I am located in Kelowna, B.C.. We have had a more sever winter than usual this winter. Sever or not we alway have freezing temperatures in winter an if water pools around the fuel cap it will freeze and expend. Freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw... Seems better to just keep water out. We've a simple people in Canada. If you don't like what's on TV. We turn the TV off
  20. Just wanted to share this with others whom must park their Mooney's outside. The previous owner warned me that water can migrate into fuel tanks so I made this magnetic rain cap. To be honest I copied the idea from an AME on the same field as me. In his case he used a tupperware lid. I couldn't find the same lid so I made my own. I vacuum formed thin polypro over a ceramic magnet purchased at Home Depot. Then I stacked the remaining magnets on the vacuumed magnet. The seal is glued to the plastic. It seems to hold well. I plan to wrap some black tape around the exposed magnets so they are not knocked off when I throw the rain cap in the back of the plane.

  23. I am still very much a new owner of a 64 M20E. I'd like to upgrade my front seats and would like to know if the seats from an M20J 201 will fit my rails? I hope this doesn't qualify as a dumb question

  25. Is it advisable to you gas stabilizer in Avgas?
