  1. I have drained all the fuel out but never used compressed air.
  2. Ive been messing with my fuel pressure gauge for about six months. Needle vibrates like a big dog. If I drain the fuel in the hose that comes from the inside firewall to the gauge it's perfect for a few flights then back to crazy town. I do have the sniffer on the back of the gauge that's supposed to dampen the needle vibration. Here's my thought. Could you put the sniffer gizmo on the other side of the firewall to help fuel from entering the hose on the inside of the cabin and possibly stop the banjo?
  3. I shot a series of Rnav approaches yesterday. With the autopilot that is the business! More accurate and a lot less button pushing. So much so I had my 530 sent out today for the Wass upgrade. LPV here I come!!
  4. My 77 201 had about 3800 when my gear got stuck partially up. When we pulled the motor there was nothing left of the brushes. Only the springs that hold them in!
  5. Well yes and no. Your right the published approach gives me a 77 degree intercept. With practice approaches I'm getting 90 degree intercepts all the time. I'm really trying hard getting used to this new to me system. I'm beating it to death wondering if it's the equipment , me or both. Today I'm going to try slowing my intercept speed to maybe 100 mph and see if that helps.
  6. Just thinking though on a LPV approach the GPS anticipates the turn to final or am I missing something? What's your YouTube channel?
  7. Ok so Stec 60-2 autopilot, 530 non Wass , King Hsi. I notice while being vectored to final on the ILS with autopilot engaged to intercept the ILS it blows through final then overcompensates to get back on course and weaves back and forth before settling down. I'm thinking a few things. I've been flying at 120 mph before it turns final. Too fast? On some approaches its about a 70 degree turn to intercept final. Being it's an ILS there is no Garmin style anticipate turn to final. I'm thinking the autopilot can't keep up with the closure rate. At a 70 degree heading change that should be roughly 24 seconds. Thoughts? Does this even make sense?
  8. You are the man Clarence! I almost went with the advice of other mechanics who said it should be fine. With your help and my gut feeling all is well with the Mooney Gods
  9. So this is how the story ends. The previous mechanic installed and improper gasket after removing the mag. The gasket had ears with holes made for a different application. The hold down clamps were clamped onto the gasket which eventually failed hence the nuts and clamps coming loose. Also the clamps that were on it were and older style which were on the SB suggesting to be replaced. The engine rebuilder was nice enough to send out the proper ones at no charge but mention sense it wasn't an AD they didn't replace at overhaul. Through no fault of my own, three mechanics and 700 dollars later it is now correct!
  10. Just to throw it out there. I have had a lot of mechanics over the years after owning two planes. I get a lot of ah it's fine just fly it comments. It's a lot of work to do it. Well hell you end up doing it twice. Once with maybe the cheaper I can do it now guy and again with the guy that's really busy and more expensive but by the book guy. Yet here I am again!
  11. Clarence, I thought for a minute thinking well it's not leaking so I'm going to leave it but you inspired me to say oh hell no! If it costs me a few more hundreds to make sure it's correct so be it.
  12. So I quizzed the mechanic that found the loose mag. I asked the following questions. Did you replace the star washers? Did you torque per the SB? Answer? Washers looked good to me and I couldn't get a torque wrench in there. I can think of thousands of dollars I have wasted paying someone to redo what someone else did wrong. What the hell!
  13. Okay how about double nutting the stud? Safety wire, locktite, duct tape, chewing gum!
  14. I had the engine overhauled about 120 hours ago. Thing is we had to swap out the fuel pump which is another story. The mechanic removed the mag to make the job easier. I don't know for sure if he replaced the washers or not. I just finished reading the service bulletin. Not sure if the mechanic today replaced the washers either but I'm not going to re-cowl until I know for sure!
  15. Yep I have the dual mag. How about safety wire? Although I've never seen safety wire on a nut. Must be a better way.
  16. All I can say is what the hell. Landed yesterday with oil all over the place. Turns out the mag was loose. Engine overhauled 125 hours ago. Lost 1/2 quart of oil. You can't tell me there is no way to keep this from happening. Thoughts?
  17. I can finally put this to bed. Turns out that there was loose pin connection in the remote gyro that was grounding out. Was difficult to find but its now fixed!
  18. So what kind of clearance would you ask for?
  19. So you arrive at your non-towered airport and it looks like you can depart VFR but overcast is right around the corner. You fire up and it rolls in. Overcast 700 feet. You can clearly see its VFR ten miles away and you want to go to a Vor 20 miles away to practice holds and you are IFR current. I guess you shut down and call the briefer and get a clearance. VFR on top? IFR with a clearance to the VOR to do air work? Suggestions?
  20. I was able to get the offset situation fixed. After the remote gyro overhaul and cleaned slaving switch all seems normal. I was flying the missed approach from the 22L ILS from KMHR in Sacramento. Flew the missed procedure, switched to GPS on the 530, engaged GPSS and it flew to the holding fix but just kept going. I switched to heading mode then and locked altitude and flew it that way instead. Been watching tons of videos online but haven't seen anything like this.
  21. I do have GPSS steering installed. This would be the published missed approach.
  22. The holding pattern is the missed approach for an ILS. It will fly it to the holding fix but then just keeps going. The hold is depicted on the 530. This is the first time Iv'e tried using the autopilot to fly the missed approach and hold.
  23. So I have a non Wass 530 and a Stec 60 autopilot with GPSS. Why won't it fly a holding pattern? thanks
