  1. Any Mooney flyers going to the AOPA Fly-in at Tullahoma, TN this weekend? We should be there with a 201 full of camping gear.
  2. Mine was the AF version: http://www.chiefaircraft.com/af-073-0141.html
  3. I bought one from Chief several weeks ago for $32. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Chris, It could be the power supply (probably a capacitor) or the bulb. A new bulb is cheap enough. Depending on the strobe system you have, you can also test the power supply by swapping sides (this assumes you have a power supply in each wing). If you find out it is the power supply, send me a PM.
  5. It likely depends on the year of your K and on whether the prior owner had any modifications done to the system. My 20J has a strobe power supply inside the outboard most inspection panel of each wing. I do not have a tail strobe, but, if I did, it would definitely require a third power supply as the current power supplies will only power one bulb each.
  6. Wishing I was there... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Lasar was competitive on the price last I checked. I was quoted $111.87 each back in July. Not sure about the loaner tool though.
  8. Congrats! As to the yaw control, that may be something on the newer models (I have no experience with those). However, it is definitely not something that I have to contend with on my '77 M20J. It goes exactly where you point it and is very responsive. I second the above advice, fly both and make up your own mind.
  9. Who handles JPI? I am considering a 730 install when I redo my panel. (I am also in the market for a WAAS GPS. Looking at new GNS 650's but am leaning toward a 430 or 530)
  10. Hmmm... Not sure where this one came from, but let the discussion begin. Winglets on a Cherokee 180, or may be a 235...
  11. Thanks everyone for the help. I ordered some yesterday. The new ones, referenced above, appear a bit different because there is no screw out of the bottom of the transistor like on the original. It will take a bit of work to get it fit into place.
  12. I will check with American. $450 is a bit more of a tab than I was looking at to get the lights to dim again...
  13. I am searching for two transistors to use on the glareshield dimmer. The part is a Delco 2N3079. I have scoured the internet and have been unable to find a replacement. Does anyone know of a supplier that carries these, or of an alternate part number that can be used as a replacement?
  14. Were you able to crack open the $1k plastic housing and replace the $5 switch inside? I would be interested in the end result as I have the exact same project in front of me.
  15. Negative Tony. After the initial warm-up, pressure remains steady.
  16. The cooler was removed and flushed last night to no avail. The sensor is a definite possibility. Any insight as to how to remove and test the temp probe would be appreciated. Also, I'm running 15w-50. Any other experiences with 100 weight benefits in this regard?
  17. CHT's are perfect. Oil pressure is perfect. Is it a correct assumption on my part that a new vernatherm will resolve any possible valve seat issues?
  18. Good afternoon. I am looking for some insight from my fellow Mooney fanatics. I am new to the Mooney world and am having issues with the oil temp. At level cruise, my oil temps are creeping above the green arc and approaching the red line (245 degrees). I can pull the cowl flaps to half and it cools right down to normal operation range. It has been extremely hot outside in Alabama recently, but the problem persists even at level cruise at 9,500 feet with an OAT of ~60 Degrees Fahrenheit. I have exhausted the options I am aware of (except one which will be put into action tomorrow) and need some new ideas. Thus far, we have been chasing our tails. Cylinders 2 & 4 (same side of the engine as the oil cooler) had an exhaust gas leak which has been fixed. My A&P and I have removed and flushed the oil cooler (flow is good and fins are straight), rebaffled the side of the engine with the oil cooler, A&P inspected and tested the vernatherm and it checked good. Last idea is to put in a new vernatherm, which is on the way now and will be installed tomorrow. I have seen some forum talk about potentially having cracked cylinder heads, but all compressions are over 75 and this does not seem to be the case. If the new vernatherm does not resolve the issue, then what?
  19. I had a 172 before as well and my wife made the exact same comment after flying in the Mooney the first time. She feels like it is a real plane. It also helps that she doesn't feel queasy in the Mooney as she did in the 172.
  20. I met a couple of Mooney guys at KEET tonight. I have family that lives on the lake and frequent KPLR. We do need our own club.
  21. And so it begins. Would someone like to remove the fat lady now? This was the first thing I saw after eating dinner. I'm not knocking you if you're in to that, but...
  22. Tennessee friends are always welcome. We are actually heading to Tennessee on October 10 for the AOPA fly-in at Tullahoma. Camping spot is reserved and hoping for good weather.
