  1. Sure, Google away. So far you have uncovered the fact that the plane can actually start, taxi, AND takeoff! Certainly wasn't my intention to 'hide', more just to respect privacy, I guess. If the thing is a lemon I wasn't intending to expose the guy or the plane. Just posted pics and looking for thoughts, not much more to it than that. Commence googling.
  2. yep, this is the first 'mooney for sale' that I've ever looked at. it's not great, I know. workable, but not great.
  3. aahh, ok thanks. different looking from the pipers I'm used to.
  4. yup, that was one that concerned me....not because it'll have any immediate impact on the safety of the plane, but it kind of shows how they went about their maintenance. the pic attached also concerns me. I'll be honest, I don't even know what it is/does, but it's very corroded. the pics of the jugs with silicone everywhere also concerned me.
  5. 68 M20C, took lots and lots of pics. I'm all ears to anyone willing to check them out and comment. There are a few I'm concerned about. Thanks! https://plus.google.com/photos/104128997267428816444/albums/6161902791717704721
  6. don't forget to use the 'hidden gem' that people often overlook..........ASK atc. last weekend I flew from charlotte to myrtle, clearly not a long xc, but there were a few cells I was looking out for. I mentioned to, oh, I think it was Florence approach at the time that I didn't have onboard wx and any advisories would be appreciated. they were happy to provide them. of course, this is no substitute for planning and all the other things it sounds like you are already doing. enjoy your trip!
  7. I had to fly to N Myrtle in a Cherokee. Now THATS a drag. Actually it's not, it was still a blast.
  8. Is the message here that this could have most likely been avoided with a PPI?
  9. Will do! I didn't get to see it last weekend, hopefully this weekend works. I got an inside tip that the plane needs some work but who knows, I'll keep y'all updated.
  10. Appreciate the feedback, treebob (and everyone else). In my defense, I didn't specifically ask "which is better", as I knew that would lead to "mine is better", "no, mine is better" (who am I kidding, y'all wouldn't do that!). The purpose of the thread was mainly to list/discuss the differences so I could understand between the two same-year models. You know, a learning effort on my part. I WILL make my own decision. And if that decision should be a horrifically slow, poor climbing, cr@ppy G model ( ) then so be it! I kid, I kid...........
  11. F's. I like F's. I like C's E's and G's too. I definitely like the J's. C's appear to be in my price range, and the purpose of this thread was to compare the same year (68) C and G, since I saw one of each up for sale, one local and one here on MS. the price difference was significant, hence I wanted to start the round table discussion about the two specific models. trust me, with 1 partner or a lil more moolah saved up, I'd be all over a J.
  12. dang it, I probably won't be able to check out the C until at least sunday at best. called MRN about a PPi though.
  13. Well I need to renew my medical this month as well. I don't recall Medex being difficult at all, I guess I'll find out over the next couple of days.
  14. Thanks for the feedback! I believe I'll be able to get a test flight in the local C, I'll report back after that happens.
  15. thanks, that's good article, I've read that before. I understand the G's #'s are "the lowest", but they're still pretty good for the bulk of my missions. I'll be talking to a local guy about a C that's been for sale for a while and is at the high end of my price range. I know someone mentioned the folks at MRN for a mooney PPi, I wish I had more options, I simply don't know any specialists yet. of course if I save up for another 20 years, I should be able to swing a J and just be done with it.
  16. 1968 C vs 1968 G. Assume very similar stats all around, similar avionics, TTAF/E, paint/interior. All very similar, the C is considerably cheaper in asking price. Vague, I know, just looking for thoughts, thanks!
  17. it sounds like a discussion you should really have with your CFI. It's good to get input here, but your instructor will have the best understanding of your skill level.
  18. What's ur budget? Can u get any decent mooney for $40k? 70k?

  20. I would add "hope to learn from it" to that.
