Welcome Gabe. I have an '82 J model. I was based in Heber City and now I'm out of Idaho Falls. My last plane was a turbo arrow. I must say that I don't miss having the turbo at all. I seldom fly over 12,500 and the J does just fine. What I do miss once in a while is the greater load available in the arrow. Buying a plane is all about compromises. If you plan on flying IFR a lot out here then a high flyer makes more sense, so does TKS.

Congrats, it's been a year and a half since I got my Mooney. They are wonderful to say the least. Enjoy!

Add Heber City/Park City UT (36U) to your tour, you'll be glad you did. Then just fly I-80 through the rockies. Scenery isn't as good but it's a safe route.

I own a company that provides websites and technology to Real Estate Agents in the USA...all my profits are donated to Mr. Mooney.

Here's another way to look at it. I've got around $140,000 in my 201 right now. No squaks, new paint, IFR capable, ADSB compliant...the list goes on. What could I buy new for $140,000 that will take my wife and I on 500+ mile trips at 155kts sipping 8.5 GPH in style? The only thing that comes to mind is a Porsche 911 Turbo but that will result in the added expense of speeding tickets and incarceration. In my mind an upgraded Mooney is quite a bargain, even a '82 M20J with $140K spent. What would I do with the money anyway, leave it to my kids?

No regrets is correct. Guys, owning a GA plane is NOT an investment, it's a passion. Unless you have a business mission that fits the 201 it makes no sense to buy the plane in the 1st place from an economic perspective. So why do it, because you love to fly. You love the freedom of flight, the smell of avgas, tinkering with your plane, fellowship at the airport, seeing new places from the air, more time with grandkids, etc, etc. You're right, I'll probably never be able to re-coup the cost of the upgrades I've made. But I didn't upgrade the plane for economic advantage, I did it for the pure enjoyment it brings me and the pride of ownership I get out of seeing this wonderful machine improved. I'm not the 1st owner of 62G. Each owner before me did their part to keep her flying and make improvments. Now I've done my part. Monday I went down to Phoenix to pick her up after the paint was dry. When I got back to Utah after a 3 hour flight (10 hours by car) I was met at the airport by my wife and the line crew who fawned all over my "new" Mooney. As I was getting into my car a stranger asked me if I owned that Mooney out on the ramp. He asked what year she was. When I replied '82 he was very surprised. I sure felt proud of my little Mooney as she sat on the ramp surrounded by Cirrus and Jets. She seems to stand a little higher on her gear now ;0)

I learned long ago that toys are cash only, no credit cards. I can't say that the process is fun however the results of the process are.

I hear what you're saying but I consider those items to be pure luxury at this point. Transponders and audio panels aren't as sexy as a AeroComfort interior. That's most likely what I'll do next...way down the road.

Master did the work on the cowling. That was one area I was really concerned about. The lower cowl had a hole next to the landing light and many chips. The cowl flap area needed attention to. The folks at Master Aircraft Services did a wonderful job with it. Looks brand new now. Of course, time will tell...

Next time drop me a line, I'm always happy to meet a Mooney driver and I can give you some tips on PC.

I present to you the new and improved N1162G. I've had her one year now and have finally completed the upgrades I wanted to accomplish. Out of the one year of ownership she's been to Lasar, Flight-Deck Avionics and Master Aircraft Services for a total of 4-5 months. I'm now looking forward to a spring and summer full of trips to see family. CREDITS: Brett - Thank you for the care you took with your ownership of 62G. LASAR - You know who they are. Flight Deck Avionics - Excellent job intalling Aspen PFD, Garmin GTN-750, GDL-88, Backup AI and all to other bells and whistles. Based out of SLC Utah - Contact Jim at 801-673-2076 Master Aircraft Services - Can't be happier with the paint. They stripped off two previous paint jobs before applying the new look. Based out of the Phoenix area - Contact Gus at 928-684-4926

Socialism sucks Venezuela detains American pilot

Actually our highway system is a great example of how a socialistic project can aid capitalism. Freedom of commerce and travel provided by a huge government project. -

I for one benefitted from socialism right here in the good old usa. I went to a public school, I joined th Navy at 17, I make a living selling websites on the Internet, I land my Mooney for free on almost any airport I choose. Many of the things that make America strong and allow capitalism to prosper are actually socialist in nature. Our country is much more complex than one single label. -
M20J - My home airport is in a mountain valley (5,600' runway ele), so I always reduce power enough to get the gear out so I can decend to pattern by the time I reach the airport. On downwind I'm at 18 inches with flaps up. At the numbers I go to 13 inches then I deploy full flaps while at the same time holding nose up trim. Once I'm at full flaps I let go of the trim, this will give me 80 knots. I fly base without changing anything, then on final I adjust power to compensate for wind and start putting in more trim to get down to 70 by the fence.

Owning an airplane is a great way to turn a big pile of money into a small pile of money...but what is money for? -

I absolutely will be posting the before and after photos as well as a review on Master Aircraft Services. They are listed in Aviation Consumer as a top shop and painted one of the AOPA give aways. Here is a photo of my new panel. I added the Aspen, GTN-750, EA-100, GDL-88 and a new backup AI with battery backup. The GTN-750, Aspen and Century 31 all work well together. I took off from 36C (Heber City UT) after inputing my flight plan including two LAT/LNG user waypoints for crossing the grand canyon. After flying through Provo Canyon I turned on the AP and hit the GPSS button. Didn't touch the yoke until we neared Phoenix! http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36316-new-panel/ Also, here's the base paint scheme I decided on. I was going to just paint it white with a couple swoshes but decided I like this better. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36317-/

Took my 1st trip of '15 Tuesday. Flew down to the Phoenix area from 36U to deliver 62G to Master Aircraft to get a strip and paint. Now I feel like an expectant father waiting for the big day. This was my 1st trip using GPSS between the Aspen and Garmin. The technology is quite amazing to say the least. It gives new life to my 30 year old AP. The photos include some shots of the Grand Canyon. I was at 10,500 to they're not the best. Flying 152KTS on 8.5GPH, nice. Was getting better millage than my F-150. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36308-aspen-pfd/ http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36309-lop-cruise/ http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36310-garmin-gtn-750/ Here are some shots of the terrain along the way, Cedar Breaks UT and the Grand Canyon. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36305-img-0076/ http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36307-grand-canyon/ http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36306-grand-canyon/ Left Utah at 30 degrees and landed in the Phoenix area at 75 degrees after 3 hours in the air. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36311-cactus/
