  1. You should post a picture on the mount that you made
  2. Preheat finally installed. I tested this puppy out and it works great. I cannot believe I was able to rig this for under 30 dollars. This heater has two settings: 750W / 1500W. I set the heat to the 750W option and came back a few hours later. I could not believe how hot it felt in the engine compartment. The best part is that it also heated up the cabin without the need to put a separate duct throught the window like I have seem in other pictures. Thank you guys for all the helpful information on how to rig this preheat system on a budget
  3. I love Avare! I have been using it for some time now and you can't beat the best feature. It's FREE!!! When I first started using it, it was kind of glitchy but you email the developer and he makes corrections fairly quick and pushes the updates throgh google play store. The interface might not have quick access feature such as the Ifly at this time but at the end of the day it is free. When my selected pubs expire everything shows up in red. All I do is press a button and it downloads all my pubs.
  4. It is a 68C. I think I finally found the culprit. I suspect it is the seal at the bottom of the fuel pump because it is the highest point I was able to identify with oil all over it.
  5. As I was finishing up replacing the spark plugs today, I noticed that the fuel line that goes into the carburetor was very wet. My first thought was that there was a fuel leak in the line. I chased the line up to the pump and noticed that the bottom of the pump was nasty and very wet with oil. I think it might be seeping out of the gasket as you suggested. The bad thing is, reaching that pump is just as easy as working on a Pontiac Fiero, LOL! There is no room for my hands at all.
  6. Dave, My concern is that the oil leak reaches all the way to the ground. I comes from somewhere in the upper rear portion of the engine and makes its way through the lower cowling into the tire and floor. I have noticed that the leak eventually stops after the oil level reads 6 quarts on the dip stick. 6 quarts is the minimum my POH allows for flight and my concern is that it will get even lower while in flight.
  7. My 68C has developed an oil leak since the last MX worked on the engine. I had him look at it and he tightened a few bolts on the oil pan and called it good. Next morning, the oil continues to seep over night and I cannot find where it is coming from because it looks wet everywhere (mostly from the back side); however, the oil seems to be seeping from a point higher than the oil pan in the back side. Has anyone experienced this before?
  8. I am looking for a KA-44B low profile antenna. I have a KR-87 system I have not been able to sell and I don't want to install it on my aircraft because of the large blade antenna. Does anyone have a low profile antenna sitting in a box somewhere that they might want to get rid off?
  9. Bob, I used to have that same problem and I could never find my tools when I needed them the most until I discovered the french cleat system. Now I have all my tools laid out throughout the garage walls by category. The best part is that I can shift things around as I see fit. You can find many videos at youtube and everyone has different ideas for hangers. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szad36MmvQQ
  10. Guys, thanks to your guidance I think I was able to pull off rigging a preheater for a very cheap budget. I bought a 1500 watt ceramic heater at Wally world for 18 dollars and a sheet metal plate with 4" hole for 3 bucks. The 4" duct was about 8 bucks and VIOLA! It works geat!

    I love the paint scheme!
  12. One more question for you guys. Do you normally leave the heater running 24/7 or do you only leave it on the night prior to flight?
  13. Thanks a bunch Jose. I will give that a try.
  14. Carusoam, It was working fine before I got deployed and when I returned I picked the aircraft up and noticed it was not working anymore. As I mentioned before I can tune and identify it. The weird part is that I think the indicator is still receiving some sort of signal beause when I flip the frequency the needle moves left and right slightly and then settles in the center.
  15. Thanks for the help Bob. I just purchased a heater similar to yours today at wally world for about 18 bucks. I bought a 4" flex duct and a flat piece of sheet metal from home depot with a 4" hole. I am going to attach the plate with the hose installed into the grill to get it looking as close as possible to your setup and give it a try. I was not a happy camper today when I tried crank the aircraft multiple times and it would not start. I guess I neet to hurry up and build some sniffle gear for the enging
  16. Thanks for the reply guys but I was hoping for a technical answer as to what might be going on before I end up going to an avionics shop. I have had some pretty bad experiences with aviation mechanics so I would like to do research on the issue before I have a shop try and rip me off for something that might be simple.
  17. Bob, Does that ceramic heater have a blower on it to push air? If so, how strong does it have to be? How many watts? I would really like to try your setup. Also, how did you attach the duct work to the heater without damaging it?
  18. Since I got back I noticed my localizer/glideslope indicator is not working properly when attempting either a VOR/Localizer/ILS approach. I can tune and identify the station and the needle moves momentarily but goes back to center. Can anyone shed some light as to what might be going on and how can I fix it?
  19. Do you have any pics of the setup you use? What kind of wattage and how many light bulbs do you use?
  20. I purchased this system over a year ago for $575. I decided not to install it because there are other things I wold like in the future and they would not all fit in my instrument panel. If anyone is interested I am not looking to make money on this. I am only looking to get back what I paid for it ($575). Includes: -KR87 ADF Receiver with connector and installation tray (PN:066-1072-00) -KI227 ADF Indicator with connector (PN:066-3063-00) -KA44 ADF Blade Antenna with connector (PN:071-1196-00)
  21. Very interested but I have to take care of more important kinks on the aircraft. If still available then, I will take you up on it
