  1. So I picked up the plane from ArtCraft. Much thanks to Mitch for looking over the project and TomCullen for giving me a ride to pick her up today. Not too many people do a refresh of a classic scheme, using new paint, so I thought it might be of interest. Anyway, here's how it came out:

  2. Not all the parts used in a certified aircraft are FAA approved. Ty-wraps, safety wire and headphone jacks are good example of these. And they are used in flight critical components such as engines, flight controls and avionics. Have you ever seen an FAA approved can of zinc chromate. As far as using marine products such as coatings, lubricants and door seals, they are exposed to a more tougher environment than anything on an airplane. If you want to know about corrosion don't bother to look into airplanes but into boats in salt water. Growing up with boats and marinas I can tell you that many of the marine products offer better protection and performance than some of the wimpy aviation products. José

  3. Spruce-East is indeed at FFC. Great little airport with lots of GA activity on the SW side of Atlanta. Pull up to the FBO and park. Then you have to decide to walk about 10 minutes to the Spruce location which is just off the airport property, or call for the van. Say, Hello" to Tim, Patrick, or whoever happens to be behind the counter. They're all great and will really work hard at finding your obscure parts/pieces and try to save you money. Spruce is a great company with great people. I can't say enough good about them. (No. I have no connection other than a pleased customer.) The ATL class B airspace has recently been modified. No problem getting in/out of FFC, but be aware.

  4. Don't be so confident you can pass the instrument rating so quickly. Its harder and takes more time than you think.

  5. Another training aid that I had an instructor due that was very effective is to find a long runway and request a land long request. Then come in, flair and then fly it down the length of the runway just a couple of feet off the ground. Takes some practice but it's an incredibly useful tool in perfecting landings.

  6. Thanks for sharing. Can't say I'm all that fond of them. I Like the idea of few fasteners and easy in and out, but they really don't look all that great IMO. Way too much form follows function. Not enough style. I am sickened by the fact that this simple mod requires an STC. Why don't they just outlaw any modifications at all and be done with it?!! Between litigation and regulation, GA is doomed.
