I’m looking for a cost effective PV powered weather station that gives me all the aviation-relevant data, live to an app or something. Needs to have wind speed and direction, cloud base, rainfall, barometric pressure etc.

Does anyone have any advice?

I have an Ambient Weather WS-2000 in my backyard.   They're fairly popular with the backyard weather people.   You can set it up to feed weatherunderground and bunch of other data collection groups that use it to feed Big Data models or just show it on maps for reference.

This is what it does:

If you feed to weather underground you can see your station's historic data with trends, etc.:

Edit:   It runs on batteries, a couple AA cells, but it lasts a long time on a set of batteries, like, many months.

That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing.

Nice weather out there this morning.

I used to use Wunderground to plan before it was bought. I thought the general usability declined, but now it looks improved. Do you use it as a source or just contribute for the general betterment of knowledge and modeling?

Contributing just to contribute for the most part, although I think wunderground may give a free service upgrade for contributing iirc.    I have an rpi that sends ADS-B data to flightradar24 and I think one other system, and get free upgrades to business level membership for that.   I think the wx station sends data to a couple other services as well.

It is nice to be able to check it when travelling or even just to see whether or how much rain I've had.    The wunderground data makes it easy to check history for rain totals, etc.
