Process for removing Nose Gear Truss

Aircraft going into annual and I need to send the Front Gear Truss to Maxwell for them to repair/replace the (2) bent tubes. What's the process for removing it, don't want to send the entire assembly in when only a part of it needs to go in for repair. Gathering information for A&P that's not too familiar with this aspects of a Mooney.

Don’t want to state the obvious but get yourself a maintenance manual and follow the directions. Read the procedure all the way thru before you start.

It requires a shock disc compression tool that your A&P will have to borrow if they don't have one.  As mentioned the instructions are in the maintenance manual.  There's also some steps that require proper set up of geometry fore-aft and gear extension and retraction when you're putting it back together.  Having someone help that is familiar with Mooney gear rigging would be a plus.

Do a search, there should be pictures posted of homemade tools used to do the job., you can make what tools I are required to remove the landing gear discs.

We replaced both nose and main gear discs with tools we fabricated.

Understood, had heard of individuals fabricating the tools necessary to remove the front pucks so that they could separate the truss

When I removed mine I did not take the discs out. LASAR Did it when I sent it in. Here are some pictures that were posted before the server got switched and a lot of the pictures were lost.

My setup was similar to the pictured unit. I’ll dig up a picture and post it.

Remember it might not be one time use after you install new discs you have to check nose gear tracking and you might have to disassemble the nose gear a second time to apply the service bulletin M20-202

You can remove the truss and then place it into a hydraulic press to remove the discs.

I found a May 16, 2022 posting from SHiney Moose, N2983L, saying he had a nose gear disc removal tool that he would loan.

This is true, I replaced the main gear discs with a press.

I have a nose shock disk tool that I rent as an option.
